It's your local children's author, Swapna Haddow, here! 📚
EXCITING NEWS - my young fiction graphic novel with Scholastic NZ will be published in September!
The Terrible Trio series starts with The (not so) Superheroes and follows Zeb, Barry and Marge who find themselves stuck with the worst superhero powers, in a world full of superheroes. The series is perfect for primary school-age and intermediate readers, too.
To celebrate, illustrator Minky Stapleton and I are having a superhero bash at UBS on 30th August. We’d love you to come along. Tickets are for sale, from UBS, for $5 per family, and the ticket turns into a book voucher at the shop, just so UBS can keep a track of numbers.
There will be cake, nibbles, drinks, prizes and cape-making activities as well as a reading and draw-along with Minky and me. AND free goodie bags for kids!
When: Saturday 30 August from 4 pm for a 4:30 pm start
Where: University Book Shop, 378 Great King Street
What: Celebrations, capes, cake and FUN!
Tickets: Online or from the University Book Shop
Prizes: Come in costume and be in to win. Categories include best dressed child & best dressed adult.

Special Rigs for Special Kids 🚛
Expect a convoy of big rigs through the Dunedin streets on Sunday, 31 August 2025, as children with special needs and a supporting adult are invited to climb aboard trucks departing from the Edgar Centre on Portsmouth Drive. The first truck leaves at 11:00 am, winding its way through iconic routes such as Victoria Road, Corstorphine Road, and Three Mile Hill before returning for a barbecue and entertainment back at the Edgar Centre specialrigs.org.nz.
Organised by local transport industry volunteers, this event has become one of Dunedin’s most memorable annual traditions — celebrating inclusivity and community spirit.
