Eco-Friendly Initiatives at Kaikorai School: A Look into Composting and Waste Reduction for Families
We are beginning the exciting journey of developing environmental awareness at Kaikorai School in 2026! We will begin the year with a focus on composting and reducing lunchbox packaging.
Composting is a great way to reduce waste and nourish the Earth. At Kaikorai School, we now have compost bins where we can dispose of organic waste, such as fruit peels, vegetable scraps, and lunch leftovers. This not only reduces the amount of waste going to landfills but also enriches the soil for our school garden.
In addition to composting, we are working to reduce lunchbox packaging. Families can help by packing lunches in reusable containers instead of disposable bags and wrappers. This simple change can significantly reduce the amount of single-use plastic discarded daily.
Encourage your child to be mindful of packaging choices when packing their lunch. Some eco-friendly alternatives include stainless steel containers and beeswax wraps.
By implementing these practices at home and reinforcing them at school, we aim to instil a sense of responsibility and respect for the environment in our students. Together, we can make a positive impact on the planet and create a sustainable future for generations to come.
