Week 5 Principal's news
The importance of student voice 💬
Last week when I checked the mailbox, I received 30 letters from the pupils of rūma tekau mā tahi giving me their thoughts about the types of playspaces they want to see at Kaikorai Primary School.
They explained why it is important to have different types of play structures that suit all ages of Kaik Kids and that sometimes we need quiet spaces for play too. I was so impressed with the quality and content of the letters that I invited them to a sit-down meeting to discuss further. I also explained the importance of having biscuits and a cuppa at meetings, so we enjoyed that while we shared ideas about their visions. Room 11 arranged a secretary who took minutes, and they decided to 'dress professionally' too, to show that they took this meeting seriously. We then visited the site to see where their ideas could be incorporated. We discussed line markings on the courts and what they want to see in these spaces.
From here, I will take their ideas to the BOT, and we will try to bring them to life in the best way we can.
Thank you, Room 11, for involving me in your authentic learning journey and reminding me about the importance of listening to the voices of our tamariki.

Jump Jam 🕺🏻
We have 4 teams competing at the Otago Jump Jam Champs this weekend. We wish you well and know you will have a blast on stage! A huge thanks to Miss Hardie and Miss Ward, who have spent most lunchtimes this year coaching the teams.
Parking outside Kaikorai 🚗
A reminder that the parks directly outside the school are a drop-and-go - no parking zone. These are designed for parents to drive in, scoop their children up, and drive off.
Thank you for keeping our children and our roads safe.
Term 4 teacher only day ✏
The Board of Trustees has approved a Teacher Only Day to be taken on 24th November this year. These Ministry-approved days are to support significant changes in curriculum and assessment. Our local Hills Cluster Schools (including Balmacewen Intermediate) also have a teacher-only day on this date.
A reminder that all important dates can be found on our school calendar.
