Pīwakawaka Hapori News

What a big and exciting term we have had in the Pīwakawaka hapori!

A huge thank you for all of the wonderful parent support we have received this term. Your help with the children’s learning, as well as all the extra events and activities that happen throughout the term, is so greatly appreciated. We truly value everything you do to support our class and school community.

This term has been full of rich learning experiences and special events, including swimming, the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme, our art exhibition, art lessons with Whaea Rachael, Whānau Teacher Learning Conversations, Move it March, and so much more. It has been a busy and rewarding term, and we are so proud of all that the children have achieved.

Project Based Learning (PBL)

The tamariki in the Pīwakawaka hapori have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this terms PBL, and were incredibly proud to share their work in the art exhibition this week. I'm sure you noticed just how creative, and individual each classes work was! We hope you enjoyed looking at all the unique art on display.

It was wonderful to see the unique ways our tamariki expressed their ideas, stories, and personalities through their art.

We hope you enjoyed taking the time to look through the beautiful and unique artworks on display as much as the children enjoyed creating them.

Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP)

A highlight of this term was bringing back the PMP programme for our Year 0 and 1 children. PMP is important for developing the children’s coordination, balance, strength, confidence, and ability to work alongside others through movement activities.

Next term, to ensure this programme runs safely and effectively, we are seeking parent volunteers to assist on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45–2:45pm. We require 4–5 helpers each day to support children across the different activity stations.

No special experience is needed - just a willingness to encourage and support the children.

If you are available to help on one or both days (either regularly or occasionally), please either email Emily Armstrong or let us know in person.

Transition to school visits

Room 13 children have loved continuing to build connections with our local early childhood centres this term. They visited Roslyn Māori Hill Playcentre, where they were warmly welcomed and had a great time playing alongside their tamariki. Later, the Playcentre children visited Room 13 in return, making an Easter-themed craft, having a play, and exploring our wonderful art exhibition in the hall.

The tamariki from Little Wonders Roslyn also came to visit, joining in for Easter story, craft activities, and classroom play. It has been fantastic to keep strengthening these relationships, sharing special experiences, and getting to know our local centres even better. For some of our tamariki, it was especially meaningful to reconnect with familiar kaiako and friends.

Have a safe an enjoyable holidays...and Happy Easter!
