Project Based Learning Term 2
This term our tamariki have the overarching question of How can we learn from space, past, present, and future?
Students will learn about space and how it helps us understand our world, including the Earth, Moon, Sun and beyond. Our journey will also explore Matariki and its importance in Aotearoa New Zealand, learning how Mฤori have used the night sky for navigation, seasons, and cultural practices.
Our chosen milestones are:
Milestone 1: As curious space explorers, we will research what makes up our solar system.
Milestone 2: Investigate how the Earth, Sun, and Moon work together to create day and night, the changing seasons, and the patterns we see in the sky.
Milestone 3: Explore how Mฤori navigators used the stars, moon, and natural signs to travel across vast oceans and settle in Aotearoa.
Milestone 4: Discover how we have used technology over time to explore our planet and beyond.
Milestone 5: Choose an area of interest from what you have learned and create a project to share your understanding.
If you have any knowledge, experience, or resources related to space, we would love for you to get in touch and be part of our learning journey. Please contact Imogen iyoungs@kaikorai.school.nz
