Week 2 news
✨Welcome to Maeve - we are thrilled to have you as part of the Kaikorai community.
It has been an incredibly special week. Where to start - cross country, book week, parent literacy evening and property progress.
Cross country 👣
It has been many years since we have held an event like this. While there are some schools of thought that cross country is archaic or that participation should be optional, we believe that the feeling of pride and success - whatever that looks like for your child, is beneficial and worthy of celebrating. This will become an annual event at Kaikorai as well as an athletics sports day in Term 4.
Thanks to our parent helpers, who were marshalls, Miss Ward, for her organisation and a special shout out to Mrs McBeath and Mrs Kumar, who supported many of our runners - they definitely got their steps up for the day, that's for sure!
Book Week 📚
We are thrilled to celebrate all things literacy here at Kaikorai. We have loved celebrating the written word and sharing our favourite stories and books. Seeing grandparents, mums and dads reading to our children in school was a very special sight.
We had 30 people attend the parent literacy evening this week to kōrero about the changes to our literacy programme and learn more about the structured literacy approach and the science behind learning to read. If you were unable to attend but would like to find out more about structured literacy, please get in touch.
Totally we celebrated in assembly with some singing, a special video and we even had a special visit from Clifford, the big red dog! I hope your children had a great book week too!
Keeping ourselves safe programme - NZ police
Please read this article about the KOS programme that is being taught this term and the parent meeting next week.
Property news 🛠
The big tree has been removed in preparation for the reinstall of the bell tower. This is exciting as the bell cairn is a significant part of our identity, and some of our newest students have never seen it before or heard the old bell being rung! Watch this space for progress.
An asbestos survey is taking place this week in preparation for the demolition of the old junior block; I'll provide exact dates when I receive them.
BOT elections ✅
Candidates are; Blair Collie, Katie Devereux, Elizabeth Fenton, Christina Fricker, Liz Harburg, Rachel Jenkins, Kate Roff and Leia Silby.
Voting papers will be sent out prior to 10th August. Voting closes on 7th September.
Please ensure your postal address is up to date in the school office. 📪
