Week 9 news

Week 9 news

Welcome to Hattie in Rūma waru. We are happy you are part of the Kaikorai whānau.

As you know, I spent 3 days at the NZPF Conference, surrounded by inspiring leaders; we engaged in kōrero about our kura, our ākonga and our aspirations for our communities. It is clear to see that the tumuaki I talked with all have their children at the heart of the decision-making, as we do at Kaikorai. We all have similar challenges with resourcing - staffing, funding for learning support, and class sizes, and we do our best for our kura.

At the gate today, on my return, numerous children asked me the question, "How was your big principal's meeting?" That sums up what caring and kind children we have at Kaikorai Primary School. It is certainly a school I am very proud to be leading.

Te wiki o te reo Māori | Polyfest 2023 🎶

We participated in Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori, the Māori language Moment 2023. It was a nationwide sing out and we had a great time singing some new waiata.

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is a government-sponsored initiative intended to encourage New Zealanders to promote the use of the Māori language, which is an official language of our country.  I hope that you hear and see te reo every day at our school and not just during one week a year.

Today, we performed at Polyfest, and there was a real sense of pride in the air; it was a polished and slick performance. Huge thanks need to go to Whaea Ana for her excellent leadership and to Mrs McDowall for her administration and organisation of the group.

Zespri Virtual Adventure 🥝

We were excited to have Kim from the Zespri Virtual Adventure visit Kaikorai this week. Kim said we are the only NZ school with all children completing the challenge! We were thrilled to hear that. We did a Jump Jam performance to show Kim what a healthy and active school Kaikorai is; as it turned out, Kim is a Jump Jam judge and was super impressed with our moves. Kim also donated boxes of Zespri kiwifruit for us to try!

Each Friday morning in term 4, we will kick start the day with a school-wide outdoor fitness session. It might be Jump Jam or skipping; we'll see what Miss Ward and the PALS come up with. An exciting new addition to our already great PE/Fitness plan.

Sand pit and water play toys 🏖

Do you have any old toys that you could donate to us? We have water troughs for sunny lunchtime play, and our sandpit will reopen after the holidays - if you are having a toy clear-out, please think of us and send any toys to the school office - so very much appreciated!
