Please do not hesitate to contact Hannah Sims at hsims@kaikorai.school.nz for any queries.

SeeSaw 📺

Your child's teacher primarily communicates through the SeeSaw app. Please download the app and enable notifications to stay updated on messages and your child's shared work. Each week, you will receive a message from your child's classroom teacher. This will include:

  • Upcoming events

  • Learning focus for the week

  • Additional special information

Please take a moment to read these updates to stay informed and engaged in your child's learning journey.

Stationery 📚

Last year, you received the information on how to order your child's stationery. Please follow this link to place an order. If your child is a new entrant, please purchase their books directly from our school office.

Road safety 🚨

Parent volunteers manage our front gate on Wright Street - can you spare some time to keep our little people safe? - please email roadpatrol@kaikorai.school.nz

Please remind anyone who does pick up and drop off for your whānau of the following rules.

  • The parking spaces directly outside our school are designated for pick-up and drop-off only. Parking and waiting, or parking to accompany your child to class in the morning, is not permitted; you will be asked to move on. These areas will be coned off from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Please do not park on yellow lines or block driveways. If you do, you will be asked to move your vehicle.

  • The mobility parking space is reserved for those with a valid permit. If you use this space, please wait until all children have cleared the driveway before leaving.

Walking School Bus 👟

The Highgate walking school bus departs at 8:15 a.m. every morning from the bus stop on Belgrave Crescent, picking up families en route. Parents volunteer one day a week to accompany the children to school.

We would love it if others who live in and around the area joined and parents volunteered to keep this going. It is a great way to start the day and build community connections. It also gets you away from the Highgate traffic jam!

If people are interested, please text Maria on 0210785724, and you can be added to the WhatsApp group.

School bell and times 🔔

  • 8:30 am – School gates open. Children arriving before this time must be enrolled in Kelly Club.

  • 8:55 am – The first bell rings. This signals the children to stop playing, have a drink, and head to class.

  • 9:00 am – School begins.

  • 10:25 am - 10:50 am – Morning tea break.

  • 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm – Lunchtime.

  • 3pm - Home time.

Phones and smart watches 📲

  • Phones: All phones must be handed to the classroom teacher upon arrival at school. They will be securely locked away for the day and can be collected at 3 pm.

  • Smartwatches: If your child has a smartwatch, it must be set to School Mode and cannot be used for communication during the school day. If you need to communicate to your child urgently in the day, please ring the school office for a message to be passed on.

Lateness, Illness or a day away from school 📍

The Government’s target is for 80% of students to attend school regularly, that is, more than 90% of the time.

If your child will be late or absent from school, please ensure you email or call the office absence line directly stating the reason for their absence. Sending a message to the teacher can sometimes lead to it being missed, which may result in a follow-up phone call from the office. To avoid this, always contact the office. All unexplained absences are followed up with a phone call.

Newsletters 📝

Our weekly updates are sent out every Friday afternoon directly to your email. Please take the time to read these and note any important dates, times, and information.

For your convenience, these updates are also published on our website and Facebook page for future reference.

Staying informed helps you avoid missing important school news or events and reduces unnecessary phone calls to the office or emails to the teacher.

Lost property 👕

In Term 4 alone, we collected five black sacks of unnamed and unclaimed clothing, which were donated to the charity shop (a total of 15 bags donated in 2024). Please help us reduce this by labelling your child’s clothing. Children often don’t recognise their own items, but having their names on them makes it much easier for us to return lost belongings.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We’re excited about another great year at Kaikorai Primary School and look forward to seeing many of you on Monday, February 3rd. See you then!

Ngā manaakitanga.

Beth Downie

Principal.
