Day trip to Tirohanga

The Tūī Hapori team had another successful trip to Tirohanga Camp this year. There is a lot of planning that goes into this day and I would like to thank the wonderful teachers, teacher aides, and student teachers who all worked towards making this day the best it could be. This day trip provided a significant opportunity for our students to practically apply our KAIK values—: Kindness, Aspiration, Independence, and Keenness—in a challenging outdoor environment.

Students demonstrated effective teamwork, perseverance, and problem-solving skills as they took part in the bush walk, the confidence course, and the bouldering wall. They were also able to have a bit of time getting some extra exercise through outdoor games.

A notable highlight is always seeing the progression of the Year 4 students showing leadership and increased confidence in working their way through the activities for the second time. Their joy in successfully navigating different activities, some of which may have proven difficult in the previous year, makes us extremely proud.

Following the our trip, some classroom activities have focused on reflective writing and discussion. Students have been sharing their experiences of success and challenge, providing valuable insight into their personal growth.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our dedicated parent helpers whose involvement was essential to the safe and successful operation of our trip. Your commitment of time and assistance ensured that we were able to provide a valuable and memorable experience for all students. The Tūī Hapori team deeply appreciates your support.

We value the continuity of experience and leadership that returning volunteers provide. Therefore, we warmly encourage the parents who assisted us this year to consider rejoining the Tūī Hapori team for next year’s visit to Tirohanga Camp.

         CONFIDENCE COURSE

Feel the rope slipping through my hands.

See the tricky obstacles peering into my eyes.

The bird’s song filling my ears.

Smell the damp wood chips rotting over time.

Taste the moist air washing through my mouth.

This is Tirohanga
