Sustainability and Life Education Bus

Our main theme for this term is Sustainability. Classes have been looking at different ideas within this theme, thinking about their understandings, questions, and possible ideas to investigate further. Room 3 have been thinking about worm farms, Room 5 have been looking at New Zealand native birds, and Room 6 have been finding out about trees and composting. Many children have also shared their own independent projects related to Sustainability. Over the next few weeks, classes will be working on investigating some of the scientific understandings related to these ideas, and designing some prototypes for products that might solve some of the problems or issues that arise from their discoveries.

We also have the Life Education Bus visiting our school next week. Children in the Middle Syndicate will be looking at human biology and what our body needs to stay happy and healthy. Each class will visit the bus a few times, and then complete a range of activities back in the classroom.

Book Week

Children have been working on a variety of activities in class and with buddy classes this week as part of our Arctic Adventures Book Week. These activities include creating fun bookmarks, researching and sharing informative posters about the Arctic, learning about the Arctic and the animals that live there through art, reading books aloud for other Kaikorai children to listen to online. Teachers have noticed many children displaying KAIK values as they have worked with new children from a range of classes throughout the school during Book Week Buddy Class sessions.
