We aim to have all students back together with the same playtimes when the building site allows.

Building progress and updates 🛠
It has been all systems go at Kaikorai since the 9th of January. Archeological teams have been on site painstakingly excavating the old blue stone, followed by a 20-tonne digger making way for the new basketball courts. The new admin area is really taking shape, with cladding going up and the internal fit-out slowly underway. The end is definitely in sight!
Road patrol 🦺
Please consider helping out with road patrol. If you can offer a small amount of time to help keep our tamariki safe before and after school. Please email roadpatrol@kaikorai.school.nz
We are still very much a building site. This means traffic is often congested around the driveway and at the front of the school. To keep everyone safe, please do not stand on the road at the end of the day.
We have 300 children exiting from the same entrance at 3 pm, and traffic can be chaotic. Consider parking on one of the many neighbouring streets surrounding Kaikorai and walking to meet your child at the front of the school. It is unlikely you will get a park outside.
Our website 💻
Our website is your go-to for information, such as email addresses for staff; all important dates are under the news ➡ important dates tab. Previous newsletters can be found here. I encourage you to familiarise yourself with our website and the information hosted here.
Newsletters and communication 🗣
I write a weekly newsletter which is emailed at 2:30 pm on a Friday. A whole school newsletter is sent three times a term, which includes articles from syndicate leaders, sports updates and the like. Please sign up via our website if you are not receiving this and wish to.
Each Sunday, you will receive a 'what's on this week' message from your child's teacher. This is relevant to your child's classroom, what they are learning and essential information for the upcoming week.
School docs (Policies and procedures) ✅
In 2022 we began slowly transitioning our policies and procedures to SchoolDocs. What is SchoolDocs ?
All of Kaikorai School’s policies and procedures are stored online with SchoolDocs. SchoolDocs manages our school’s policies and procedures in a way that allows us to maintain, review and update them regularly. It ensures our policies and procedures are up to date, we are following Ministry of Education best-practice guidelines, and we are meeting our reporting requirements.
The site is organised into policy topics. The site is designed to be a one-stop shop for policies and procedures, eliminating the need for paper manuals.
We invite you to log in to our SchoolDocs site and explore. Your reviews and feedback are valuable, and it’s important to be familiar with our school’s policies and procedures.
You can find out more information at the SchoolDocs website - our username is kaikorai, and password is tynestreet

SeeSaw 🪟
SeeSaw is a 'window in your child's learning'. Children and teachers will share and celebrate your child's goals, classwork and achievements through this platform. Teachers will communicate with you on this platform, also. It is an app that I encourage you to download to connect with your child's learning - if you have not already.
The school office 🗄
Sharon (Monday - Wednesday) and Susie (Thursday - Friday) are still temporarily located at the end of the first block of classrooms. There is a large 2m blue flag outside the building. Please look for the flag if you are trying to find the office.
The office will be open from Monday 30th January.
Absences ☎
If your child is absent, please ring the school office and leave a message on the answer phone. If your child is absent and you have not notified the office, Sharon or Susie will ring you to follow up on where they are.
School hats 🧢
A school hat is required for Term 1. These can be purchased from the office. Children without a hat must stay in the shade during break times.
Naming children's clothes 👕
I took five bags of unclaimed and unnamed lost property to the charity store after school finished. This was only term four's lost property. Children often cannot recognise their clothes either, so we would be very grateful if you could do this. If you wish to buy iron-on labels, you can do so from this company, and Kaikorai receives a small percentage of the sale.
Music lessons at Kaikorai 🎸 🎹 🥁
