Kererū Hapori News
Thank You!
We want to extend a huge thank you to our student teachers, Miss Hola and Miss Uren, for their teaching and dedication to our Kaik kids over the past month. We wish them all the best for the final year of study in 2026.
Otago Athletics Championships
Congratulations to all of the Kererū students who represented our school and competed in the Otago Athletics Championships last week. We are proud of all of you and the effort you made when competing in your events.
Congratulations to Micah, who placed 2nd in the Long Jump and to our Under 10 Girls Relay team (Lulu, Sophie, Frankie, and Aria), who placed 2nd.
School Council
Our school council is well underway, with our councillors developing a range of initiatives to enhance our school environment. They have been sorting the sports shed and coming up with ideas to help the grass grow on the field, and they are looking for ways to keep the woodchips off the grassed play areas.
Stock The Bus Charity Event
This year, Kaikorai Primary School is taking part in the Stock the Bus Christmas charity appeal. The new school council is organising the Stock the Bus Event, collecting donations, and sorting them.
The focus is on items that make a real difference in everyday life.
We are collecting donations of school bags, stationery, school shoes, socks, toiletries, Christmas treats (such as chocolate), and non-perishable food items. Please, no toys this year. In the spirit of sustainability, donations of reusable bags are also encouraged.
All donations support charity efforts to provide Christmas presents and school supplies to families in need.
The bus will arrive at school on Friday, November 21st, at 10:40 am. Please donate all items in a reusable bag by November 20th and put them in the box at the school office. Add your child’s name and room number to a piece of paper and place it in a reusable bag with the donated items. Children will be able to go on the bus and donate their items.
Thank you in advance for making someone's Christmas a little brighter.
Harriet, Elliot and the 2025 School Council Team.
P.S. You can dress up in your favourite Christmas hats and clothes to visit the bus.
Camp and Year 5 Activity Week
25th-28th of November
You should now have received numerous communications about these two events. Please email bmcdowall@kaikorai.school.nz for information regarding the Year 6 camp and rhardie@kaikorai.school.nz for details about the Year 5 activity week if you have not received any communications.
Tennis
Over the past two weeks, our team have been fortunate to take part in four tennis coaching sessions. Some of the skills taught were forehand, backhand, and how to hit a ball over a net successfully—a huge thank you to Omar for coaching the children for these sessions.
Project-Based Learning
Over the past few weeks, we have continued to explore ways to nurture our own well-being. We are exploring the Te Whare Tapa Whā model and exploring ways to maintain our physical, spiritual and mental well-being.
The Te Whare Tapa Whā model describes health and wellbeing as a wharenui/meeting house with four walls. These walls represent taha wairua/spiritual wellbeing, taha hinengaro/mental and emotional wellbeing, taha tinana/physical wellbeing and taha whānau/family and social wellbeing. Our connection with the whenua/land forms the foundation.
When all these things are in balance, we thrive. When one or more of these is out of balance, our well-being is impacted.
It’s not too late to visit our classes and share your knowledge of this topic. Please email your child’s class teacher if you can help.
2026 Road Patrol
On Monday, 17 November, our Year 5 students will have the opportunity to train for the 2026 road patrol team. Students can sign up at school for the training session with Constable Ross.
Year 6 Leavers Celebration
The Year 6 Leavers Celebration will be held on Wednesday, the 10th of December. Due to limited space in the hall, we kindly request that only 2-3 family members attend for each Year 6 student.
Please RSVP bmcdowall@kaikorai.school.nz if you require more than two family members to attend the event.
We request that Year 6 Leavers dress up in their finest attire for this special celebration. We will have supper at the conclusion of the event. Please bring a small plate of food to share with others.
An invitation has been emailed to Year 6 families with further information about this event.
Southern Hoiho
Some of the players from the Southern Hoiho visited the school and ran a training session with our basketball-keen Kererū girls.
The girls learned a variety of skills and drills during this 1-hour practical session. Thank you to the Southern Hoiho for visiting our school. We wish them the best for the rest of their basketball season.
End of Year Activities
We are looking forward to all of the exciting activities happening in our team leading up to Christmas! Please remember to check SeeSaw regularly for important activities happening at school for the remainder of the term.
Bridget McDowall, Rosarah Hardie, Hannah Sims and Kane McKay.
