Kererū Hapori News-Term 2, Week 11.
Kia Ora,
As we wrap up an incredibly busy eleven-week term, we want to take a moment to reflect on everything our students have achieved. Over the past few months, our classrooms have been buzzing with energy, creativity, and curiosity. The children have thrown themselves into a huge variety of engaging and educational experiences. We are immensely proud of their hard work, resilience, and enthusiasm for learning this term.
We want to extend a thank-you to all our parents, caregivers, and extended family members for your support. A special thank you goes out to everyone who joined us for Whanau/Teacher conferences this week; your active partnership in your child's education makes a world of difference to our learners. As we head into a well-deserved break, we are already looking forward to an exciting Term Three, which will include the highly anticipated build-up to our annual School Fair! Enjoy the holidays, stay safe, and we will see you all refreshed and ready for another fantastic term ahead.
School Council News
Thank you to our school councillors who have done an amazing job over the last two terms supporting their classes and representing the school. Next term, we will have a new team of councils. Congratulations to our newly appointed councillors!
Little Miracles Fundraiser
Our Little Miracles fundraiser was extremely successful, and we raised $923.50. Thank you to our school community for supporting this fundraiser. It was a rewarding experience for our councillors to be part of.
A Sizzling Success! Huge Thanks for Your Camp Support 🌭🍦
We want to send a massive shout-out and a thank-you to our amazing team of Year 6 sausage sizzle helpers! Every week, these fantastic students and their Whanau have shown great teamwork, responsibility, and enthusiasm, braving the grill and serving up smiles to keep our lunchtime BBQ running smoothly.
We also want to extend a huge thank you to our wonderful school community. To everyone who has been purchasing sausages and ice blocks each week—your appetite for a Friday treat is making a massive difference!
Thanks to your incredible support, we have already raised a substantial amount of money to help lower the costs of our upcoming Year 6 camp in Term 4. Every single contribution counts, and we are so grateful for your ongoing generosity in helping make this unforgettable experience accessible for our students.
Keep an eye out for our return next term—let's keep the momentum going!
Project-Based Learning
This term has been an exciting term learning about space. Classes have been coding in Scratch, using CoSpaces, creating posters, making models, writing informative reports and much more.
In this inquiry, students explored how space helps us understand our world in the past, present, and future. They investigated our place in the galaxy and developed an understanding of key space concepts, including the Earth, Moon, Sun, and beyond. Through learning about Matariki, students connected with Aotearoa New Zealand's histories and discovered how Māori have used the night sky for navigation, seasonal change, and cultural practices.
Please check SeeSaw to view the class summary for the term.
Kaikorai Valley College Visit
On Wednesday, July 1st, our Year 6 students visited Kaikorai Valley College to explore the college's specialist facilities and participate in activities inside the Science labs and Technology rooms. Our Year 6 students enjoyed new hands-on experiences and got a taste of what KVC offers students moving into Year 7 next year. It was an exciting and highly engaging experience for our students.

Matariki Celebrations
Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster and represents the Māori New Year. The word translates to "little eyes" (matariki) or, more spiritually, "eyes of God" (Ngā mata o te ariki). Rising in midwinter, it is a time for reflection, remembering the deceased, feasting, and planning for the future.
On Thursday, July 2nd, we celebrated Matariki as a school community. The celebration started with a performance by the Kapa Haka group, whose voices and energy set the tone for the day. Whaea Ana attended and told us a story about the stars of Matariki.
After the performance, we took part in activities with our buddy classes, where students worked together to create a variety of crafts and celebrate togetherness. The event ended with karakia and shared kai.
Thank you to all of the parents who attended and celebrated with us.
