Week 1, Principal's News 10/10/25
We have had a fabulous start to Term 4 with lots of positive attitudes and energy in our classrooms. This is particularly evident when you read this week's Principal's Awards below and what our tamariki have been recognised for.
Athletics Day 🏃🏻♂️
We are looking forward to our annual Athletics Day, which is scheduled for next Tuesday at the Caledonian Ground.
A huge thank you to all our whānau helpers; we could not run this event without your support.
Supporters are always welcome! If you have a few free moments during your workday, please feel free to pop down to the Caledonian Ground and cheer on your child.
Let us hope the weather cooperates to make for an exciting event. If we do need to use our postponement day, we will notify you through our usual communication channels.
Strike - school closure (informal notice) 🚨
Kaikorai Primary School will likely be closed on 23/10/25 due to nationwide industrial action by NZEI union members. You will receive formal notification from the school board within 3 days of the strike action. Please plan for this. (Please note, Kelly Club will not be open.)
Arriving Before the Bell: The Best Start to the Day! 🔔
The first school bell rings at 8:55 a.m., signalling the start of our learning day.
However, we know that the transition from home to school is crucial for a great day. We strongly encourage all children to arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 8:50 a.m.
This precious window allows them to:
Connect: Chat and play with their friends.
Prepare: Check in with their teacher, hang up their bag, and fill their drink bottle.
Settle: Get calm and emotionally ready for the day ahead.
We all know the stress of rushing to work; that heightened state can be even stronger for children. Let's make it a focus this term for all our children to arrive before 8:55 a.m.
Please take a look at the attached visual, which shows the significant impact that being late has on your child's learning.
2026 class placement 📆
The Leadership Team will shortly be looking at the composition of classes for 2026.
When creating class placements, we consider many factors. If there are additional important factors that we may not be aware of but should consider, please schedule an appointment with Beth by November 15th for further discussion.
To make an appointment, please email Beth at principal@kaikorai.school.nz, send a message on Seesaw, or phone the office at 464 0065.
Classes will be published in the school report on December 1st , and no changes will be made after this time.
