Week 7 Principal's News
Student leadership opportunities ✨
It has been a busy few weeks for student leadership! Many of our students recently applied to be Class Councillors, with many preparing and delivering speeches to their peers. Our 2026 Student Council is now meeting to discuss new ideas and initiatives for our Kaik Kids. It’s great to see them so engaged.
We also have leadership happening out on the field and in the classroom:
PALS (Physical Activity Leaders): Today, Sport Otago visited to train our Year 6 PALS. These students will be running lunchtime activities to help our younger students stay active and have fun.
Buddy Classes: This is another wonderful way for our tamariki to lead. Older students are paired with younger ones to guide them through games, activities, and learning.
These roles are so important for building confidence and helping our students support one another.
Whānau teacher learning conversation
The booking site closes at 5pm on Sunday. Please ensure you have booked a time slot with your child's teacher. When home and school work together, that is when the magic happens for our tamariki.

Safety on wheels 🛴
A reminder to our tamariki and their whānau who use wheels (bikes, scooters and skateboards) to travel to and from school.
Helmets are a Must: This is non-negotiable. To keep those brains protected, a correctly fitted helmet must be worn at all times while riding.
Walk Your Wheels: Once you enter the school grounds, please dismount. Bikes, scooters, and boards need to be walked to the parking area, where they’ll stay safely tucked away until the end of the day.
Electric Scooters: For safety reasons, please note that electric scooters are not to be used within the Kaikorai School grounds.
After-School Play: You are more than welcome to use the school playground after hours! However, children must be actively supervised by an adult, and the same safety rules apply: if they are on wheels, they must have their helmets on.
Thank you for helping us keep our school a safe environment for everyone.
Shipping container 🚢
Thanks to our friends at Port Otago (and our awesome parent community), we have secured a storage container for use. What does this mean for us? It means we can start collecting and sorting donations for our September school fair. This will be a game-changer for us, and we are already so grateful for the school's parent support of the school fair. The container is scheduled to be delivered next week.
Keep an eye out in our newsletters for more information about our school fair!
