Term 1, Week 10 Principal's News

What a fantastic term it has been! As the term draws to a close and the holiday break approaches, it's crucial to acknowledge the incredible mahi of our team. Our kaiako and support staff have seamlessly implemented two new curriculum documents and embraced different approaches to teaching and learning.

This transition has involved significant hours of professional learning as they strive to provide the best possible learning experiences for our ākonga. We understand that these new approaches may differ from previous experiences, both for our tamariki and for you as parents. We trust that you have felt well-informed about these changes in teaching and learning. Next term, we will be hosting a mathematics and literacy curriculum evening. This will be an opportunity for you to learn more about the updated delivery methods and resources we use in these key learning areas.

I hope the team have a well-deserved restful break with their whānau and you and your tamariki do too.

Anzac plaques ✞

We are so thrilled that our precious war memorial plaques are back on display! These important pieces of our school's history were safely stored during our demolition and rebuild.

Thank you so much to Blair from our school board for driving this project, Allcor Fabrication, stonemasons Wainwright & Hickey, and Structural Engineer Stephen Macknight for their mahi.

While we still have the school name to be installed, we couldn't wait to share the return of these significant plaques with our community!

Mural 🎨

We hope you've had a chance to check out the vibrant new mural located near the flying fox!

Many of you have been curious about the image of a tin of pineapple in the artwork. This is a clever visual nod to the origin of the "Pineapple Track" name. The mural is intentionally positioned facing Flagstaff, which is the landmark that gave the popular walking track its unique name.

The Pineapple Track crosses the peak of Flagstaff. The track's unusual name dates from the 1920s, when a local grocer used to act as a guide to the top of Flagstaff, handing out tins of pineapple as a refreshment at the top. The empty cans were often left behind and were frequently seen along the side of the track as unofficial marker posts.

We hope you enjoy this creative connection to our local history as much as we do!

Whānau Hui 🗣️

We invite all our whānau Māori to a hui to hear your voice and goals and aspirations for your children. Please save the date 21/5/25 with a time to be confirmed.

Staffing news ✏️

We are pleased to announce that Mrs Samantha Baker will be the new teacher for Room 13, starting on Monday, May 19th.

Many of you will remember Sam from her time teaching Year 0 in Room 8 last year. She works with our leadership team as a release teacher and is excited to return to the classroom full-time.

We know Mrs Baker will be a wonderful addition to Room 13.

For those who ordered the hoodies, these should be ready for collection in week 1 of next term.
