Week 4 news

Attendance ✅

This week, we received information from the Government regarding their new attendance campaign. The Government has set a new target of 80% of students to be present for 90% of the term.

Kaikorai's data shows that 75% of our students regularly attended school in Term 1. The main reasons for absences were illness or medical issues (53%) and taking holidays during term time (32%).

Regular attendance is defined as 90% attendance in a school term, which equates to being away for 5 days in a term. It is noted that if a student misses 20 days of school every year, by the end of Year 12, they will have missed more than a year's worth of schooling.

Managing attendance and sick children can be challenging. However, if your child is sick, please keep them at home. Specifically, if your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhea, they must stay home for 48 hours after the last episode.

Road Safety Week 🦺

This week, we recognised Nationwide Road Safety Week. Thank you to our parent and grandparent volunteers for safely getting our children across the road daily, regardless of the weather! We acknowledge and thank you!

You can help our road safety team by not parking over driveways and yellow lines, using the pickup and drop-off zones correctly and keeping under the speed limit; saying thanks to our crew is always appreciated, too.

Week 5 🇼🇸

Next week, we recognise Samoan Language Week and welcome any of our families to share with their class about their Samoan heritage.

Bridget McDowall will be Acting Principal until next Thursday. Kristen and I are in Ōtautahi | Christchurch for professional development. Bridget will be at the gate each day if you wish to speak with her. You can also reach her via email at bmcdowall@kaikorai.school.nz.

A final reminder that school is closed on 31st May for a teacher-only day.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support.
