Week 9 Deputy Principal's News 12/9/25
This week, Beth has been away at the New Zealand Principals’ Federation Conference. The theme, Tākina Te Hau – harness the winds, focuses on leadership through times of change. We look forward to hearing Beth’s insights when she returns.
Read-a-thon Success 📚✨
A huge thank you to all the whānau who supported our Read-a-thon! The enthusiasm from our students was incredible, and together we raised an outstanding amount to go towards resources for our school. Ka pai to everyone who read, sponsored, and encouraged our readers – what a wonderful team effort! Thank you to Mrs Anderson for her organisation in this successful event.
Art with Whaea Rachael 🎨🌟
Whaea Rachael, an Arts Educator from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery has been running art sessions with all our students for the last couple of weeks. Pīwakawaka and Tūi hapori have explored Ko wai au? (Who am I?), expressing their identities through creative artworks. The Kererū team worked on an Over the Rainbow theme, encouraging imagination, diversity, and colour in their artmaking. 🌈We are excited to see the creativity and confidence that comes from these sessions.
Hungerball Fun ⚽😁
You may have noticed the excitement around the huge inflatable object on our courts! Hungerball — an inflatable, six-sided game arena where players can score into each other’s goals while defending their own, has been added to our playspace for the next two weeks. It’s fast-paced, fun, and promotes teamwork, fair play, and plenty of laughter. It has been a real highlight during break times and PE sessions.
🚗 Kiss and Drop Reminder 🚗
A friendly reminder that the Kiss and Drop area is designed for quick drop-offs and pick-ups only. Please do not stop and park your car to wait for your child. Only pull up if you can see your child ready and waiting. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely for everyone.
🚦 Please also remember not to park on the yellow lines. Doing so creates congestion and is against traffic laws.
👕 Lost Property Overflowing! 👟
Our lost property is once again overflowing! Please take a moment to come and check if any of the items belong to your child.
Please make sure all items are clearly named to prevent them from being added to the lost property pile.
All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the term.
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week 🗣️🇳🇿
Next week we join schools and communities across Aotearoa in celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Our classes will learn new kupu (words), use greetings and phrases in everyday routines, and share waiata together. We encourage tamariki to use reo Māori at home too – every little bit helps strengthen the language for future generations.
