Term 3, Week 2 Principal's News 25/7/25

It's been wonderful to be back at the helm this week, reconnecting with everyone and our community. Kaikorai truly is a special place, and I felt incredibly lucky to be recognised on Wednesday during NZ-wide 'Tumeke Tumuaki Day'. This day is dedicated to celebrating and acknowledging the important role of a principal. I received some gorgeous cards, poems, and drawings from our tamariki, and I absolutely loved reading each and every one. Thank you to the team for making this happen.

Cross Country 🏃🏻

How fabulous was our cross country? The sun was shining, energy levels were soaring, and the organisation was fantastic. It was wonderful to see so many children achieve their personal goals.

I want to actively discourage the idea that cross country is something to be feared. As I mentioned on the day, it's one foot in front of the other with a bit of mud and healthy competition.

A huge congratulations to our tamariki who placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and especially to the senior students who earned a spot on the Hills Cluster Cross Country Team! I was incredibly proud of every single one of our children for their effort and participation.

A big thank you to our amazing PALS for warming up the whole school with Jump Jam, running alongside the junior school, and providing excellent encouragement throughout the day. Special thanks to our parent helpers, to Miss Wilson and Mrs McBeath for running with the tamariki, and of course, a massive shout-out to Miss Sims for organising such a successful event!

School Board Elections 🗳️

You should have received an email nomination form for the upcoming Board Elections. This email comes from Election Pilot and might be in your spam or junk folder.

Receiving this nomination form is essential because it confirms you'll get the voting papers to vote for the new Kaikorai Primary School Board, which takes office in September.

Nominations close on August 6th at 12:00 noon.

School Production 🎭

Our biennial production is just around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited! The dress rehearsals have been fantastic, and the energy and anticipation is building.

As a reminder, you can purchase tickets online by visiting the Regent Theatre website.

To avoid paying a $5 online service fee per ticket, we recommend purchasing your tickets in person at the Regent Theatre box office in the coming weeks.

Late starts 🥶

I really appreciate your support this week during our two late starts.

As I mentioned last term, decisions about late starts are made by a committee of principals. They then inform all Dunedin principals, who in turn notify their school communities.

We publish late start notifications on our Facebook page, send a message via SeeSaw, and also email a newsletter. Please make sure you have access to at least one of these communication channels to receive these updates.

Finally, it's important that our incredible educators have enough time to drop off their own children and get to school safely to prepare for the day. With this in mind, please ensure your child does not arrive early on a late start day.
