Week 6 Principal's News 22/8/25

We had a busy morning at Kaikorai yesterday. We welcomed Jordan Ngatai (NZ Tall Black 🏀), and just when we thought the excitement was over, our local fire brigade 🚒 arrived, responding to a call point that was accidentally set off. Our students and staff were amazing—our evacuation response was excellent!

You can read Miss Sim's sports report to find out more about why the legend that is Jordan Ngatai was at Kaikorai Primary School.

Disco 🌈

Thanks to our Parents' Group for organising and hosting a school disco last night. Events such as discos are an integral part of their fundraising calendar which directly support all children at Kaikorai. Thank you for supporting the disco.

Jump Jam success 🕺🏻

On Sunday, our 5 Jump Jam teams competed against other Dunedin schools in the local competition. We were thrilled to add 2 third-place trophies to our display. For more details read Miss Hardie's report in the newsletter.

O'Mathalon success ➗

What is O'Mathalon, you ask? O'Mathalon is a unique competition that combines mathematics with physical exertion.

  • Students form teams of four.

  • Teams work together to solve a series of challenging mathematical questions.

  • After a team solves a question, a designated "runner" sprints to a marker to get the answer checked. If the answer is correct, they receive a new question and sprint back to their team. If it's wrong, they are sent back to their team with the same question to try again.

  • Teams get points for each correct answer, and these points are tallied up at the end of the competition.

Our Year 6 team of 4 won the Dunedin competition for a 2nd year in a row!

Congratulations to all the tamariki involved.
