Week 1 news
Kia ora Kaikorai whānau
What a wet week it has been, but as always, there has been a lot of laughter, smiles and happiness. With suitable clothing, it does not matter if it is a rainy day ☔(as I found out at the gate this week!) we want children to be still able to be outside and running around - so gumboots are great and waterproof coats too would be fab!
Book week 🐾
Week 2 brings us book week; for more information about the activities and events planned, please click here 🐱🐶📚
I hope many of you can make it to the information evening about our literacy programme and the changes with structured literacy. I look forward to talking with you on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the school hall with presentations from our team and literacy leaders.
Cross country 👟
The Kaik cross country is back after a few years' hiatus! Let's hope the weather plays along with us. For detailed times and further information, please click here . If you need more information, please email Felicia fward@kaikorai.school.nz
Property news
The old junior block is out of bounds from the end of today as the asbestos survey begins next week. This is in preparation for demolition that is happening shortly. You may have seen the ODT article about the rebuild. The new imagery seen in the article will be on the hoardings soon and really shows the extent of the new spaces.
We have a new flag being made to indicate where our office is, this will help with the wayfinding to point you in the right direction to find Sharon and Susie.
Board of trustees elections ✅
Triennial elections for school Boards of Trustees are to be held during September this year. NOMINATION FORMS HAVE BEEN POSTED; we have had a lot of forms return to sender, 📫which means your address is not up to date. Please email the office secretary@kaikorai.school.nz with your updated postal address.
Nominations close on August 3rd. Please reach out to our presiding member Dougal McGowan for further information about what it means to be on the BOT dougalmcgowan@gmail.com
Parent group meeting
We had a great parent group meeting last night, and there are some new and initiative fundraising ideas for the rest of the year and for the start of 2023.
It was fabulous to see new faces at the meeting too.
Please follow this link to order your child's calendar art 🎨📆 The turnaround of the fundraiser is very quick, and we don't want you to miss out.
As always, a huge tautoko to our parent group for their time and energy in providing the extras that make our school so great for our little people. The teachers are very proud owners of Kaikorai jackets; these jackets will be great for doing duty on a cold day, on school trips, and when teaching PE. A big thank you to our parent group for generously purchasing these for us.
Poor driving and parking
It's disappointing I need to write this; please DO NOT park in our disability park without a permit; please use your indicator, think about our children before you double park and try to hurry your child into the vehicle. It is a matter of time before we have a near miss if those that are driving poorly continue. Thanks to the awesome whānau that park in the side streets and walk and wait outside our school at 3 pm. This, too, is a great time to have a kōrero with others and make new connections within the community.
Please consider the safety of our tamariki!
Balmacewen Intermediate open night
Please read the information below about the upcoming Balmac opening night.
As always, please get in touch if I can help in any way.
