Kererū News-Week 3
Kererū Poetry
The Voice of Nature
The forests whisper,
Secrets carried on the breeze,
A silent symphony.
The wind chuckles loudly,
As it messes with our hair,
Stealing hats and twigs.
The sea spans the world,
Like a gigantic blanket,
A bottomless abyss.

The Beach
Waves crashing like a storm,
Smell the fresh, salty air.
Caw, caw, seagulls scream!
Hot, bright sun burns my skin.
Wiss, wiss, cool wind blows sand in my face.
Ouch! Crabs pinch me hard, like my little brother
Swish, I skip with green, slimy seaweed,
My smile reaches the heavens.
Shells, oh so beautiful.
The waves are calling me,
Sandcastles that reach the clouds.
Salty water fills my nose.
The clouds tell stories as you lie down,
The wind tells pictures in the sand.
Ships roaring on the horizon,
Explore the dark, deep sea.
Sand sparkles in the sun,
Starfish crawl over my toes,
Seaslugs hid in the rockpads.
Nasty sandflies buzz around my face,
The beach is truly a magical place.

Emotions
A cloud of thunder roaring above my head,
Anger closes his eyes,
All he can see is redness, frustration and thunder.
Happiness spreads her delight,
Like a blooming flower,
A golden fountain, chocolate strawberries,
Flowing with sparkles and sunshine.
Excitement flows like a football,
Racing to the moon,
Excitement spinning like she is standing in a field of sweets.
Sadness fills the house like a cold glass of water,
Getting dumped on your head.
Tears streaming down her arm as clear as glass.
Nervousness feels like a tiny mouse,
Skittering and scattering around the house
Looking for some cheese to calm her down.

The Game of Life Production-Thursday the 7th of August
Production night is almost here!
You will need to get your children into their costumes, add makeup, and style their hair before bringing them to the Regent Theatre at 5:45 pm. Please make sure your child has all of the items in their costume bag on - don't leave anything behind, as we do not have spares. Please also refer to the additional costume notes and hair styling instructions sent home by your child’s teacher.
All children need to arrive wearing their costumes and be dropped off at the Chambers door, beside the front entrance of the Regent Theatre. Teachers will be there, wearing hi-vis vests, to direct your child to their dressing room or seat. Please take their shoes, socks and outer layers with you, as they won’t need them during the performance and the theatre is warm.
Parents can then enter the main doors of the theatre and choose a seat.
Please make sure all children go to the toilet before leaving home.
Absolutely no water bottles or food.
The performance begins at 6:30pm and will end between 7:30-8pm.
Year 6 Camp Meeting
We will have a camp meeting in the Senior Learning Street on Wednesday, August 20th, at 6:30 pm for parents interested in learning more about what happens at school camp and for parents wishing to volunteer their time at camp this year.
During this meeting, we will discuss how the camp will run for 2025 and answer any questions you may have.
We are required to carry out police vetting for all parents and guardians intending to help at camp. To complete the vetting form, you will need two forms of identification. These could be your driver's licence and passport. One form of identification must contain a photograph. Police Vetting forms will be distributed once we have received the parent volunteer forms and parents have been selected. Please be aware that we can only take up to twelve parent volunteers this year. This is due to space availability and cost constraints.
The cost of the camp will be finalised at the end of this term.
Our camp dates are Tuesday, November 25th, to Friday, November 28th.
Student consent forms will be sent out after the camp meeting.
Cross Country
We all had a great time at the school cross country last week. The sun was shining, and our Kererū students were excited and perhaps a little bit nervous before the races began. It was impressive seeing so many of our Kererū students challenging themselves to run all or most of the way without stopping. Those who worked hard to train during our daily fitness programme reaped the rewards and ran further than they thought they could.
Thank you to all of the Physical Activity Leaders who helped out at the event. You were fantastic, and your help was greatly appreciated.
