Pīwakawaka Hapori news
We have had a nice, calm start to Term 4 in the Pīwakawaka Hapori, and are looking forward to a great last term for this year.
PBL (Project Based Learning)
How can movement, relationships, and healthy choices work together to support hauora across our school community?
We are excited to start unpacking this driving question for this terms PBL. Our tamariki will investigate how movement, strong relationships, and everyday healthy choices can help strengthen the hauora of themselves, their peers, and the wider school community.
Many of our Pīwakawaka classes started by looking at what is Hauora, learning about Whare Tapu Whā, and also revisiting the Zones of regulation with Mrs Ferguson.
Next we will be discussing feelings, thinking good thoughts, and exploring ways of being active.
*Te Whare Tapa Whā is the concept of a four-walled house, where each wall represents a different aspect of health: physical (𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑎), mental (𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑎ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑟𝑜), family and social (𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑤ℎā𝑛𝑎𝑢), and spiritual (𝑡𝑎ℎ𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑖𝑟𝑢𝑎). A strong and balanced house means a strong and balanced person.
Athletics
What an amazing Athletics Day we had last week. The children enjoyed running, jumping, throwing, and trying new things! Our Pīwakawaka children demonstrated good sportsmanship, resilience and perseverance, as they tried their best at all of the fun activities. It was great to see so many families out supporting us as well!
Read-a-thon Resources
Our classes are excited to have new literacy resources, purchased from the money raised in the Read-a-thon last term. A huge thank you for helping us raise money for these resources.
Welcome to Kate Cutler
Kate Cutler is joining our teaching team. She will be supporting the tamariki in Room 9 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Sunhat Reminder:
We still have a few students who do not have their school sunhat at school. Kaikorai-branded bucket hats are compulsory for all students in Terms 4 & 1.
If your child needs a new hat, you can purchase one from the school office.
Please be aware that any child without a hat will be directed to play in the shade during break times.
Important dates for this term:

31st Oct: Some Balmacewen children are visiting to Interview our children about fairytales for their project
