Pīwakawaka Hapori News

What a fantastic year we have had!

It was an action packed year full of learning and fun experiences; swimming, production, going on trips, learning from visitors, Matariki celebrations, book week and read-a-thon, and project based learning being our main highlights.

Term 4 Project Based Learning (PBL)

The Pīwakawaka Hapori have really enjoyed this terms PBL! We’ve been discovering how exercise, having strong friendships, and making everyday healthy choices can help strengthen our own hauora and the wellbeing of those around us too.

We explored our emotions through activities like Rock and Feather Feelings, read stories, and listened to our guest speakers talk about mindfulness and ‘calming the farm’. We practised mindfulness each day to help keep ourselves feeling calm, balanced, and ready to learn, and talked about our circle of control.

We got our bodies moving with cricket sessions, athletics, and Pīwakawaka fitness each day, and some of us made up our own new games to try. When learning about healthy eating, we found out that we LOVE eating the rainbow and trying new foods that help our bodies stay strong.

We loved making fruit kebabs!

We hope you enjoy our wonderful recipe book, packed with feel-good, yummy meals made with aroha!

What did our children like the most?

Evie, Room 11- "I like doing Christmas art and watching the shows at Balmacewen".

Walter, Room 11- "I liked inventing a new game."

Fletcher, Room 12- "I like exercising at Pīwakawaka fitness".

Alice, Room 12- " I like learning about healthy eating and eating the rainbow".

Lyra, Room 9- "I liked watching the shows. It was funny when the walls fell down".

Finn, Room 9- " I liked making fruit kebabs".

Edward, Room 10- " I always like doing art".

Olive, Room 10- " We learnt about having a good sleep and we made sleeping art".

Frankie, Room 13- " I like hearing all the stories".

Cooper, Room 13- "Athletics and doing races was my favourite".

Disco

What a fantastic way to wrap up the school year! The Christmas Disco in the hall was a blast, with children dressed for Christmas and showing off their best dance moves.

Finally...

Throughout the year the children have worked incredibly hard towards their learning goals, and demonstrated our KAIK values in their own ways. We are so proud of their efforts and progress!

We would like to say thank you to you for being so supportive of your child's learning journey this year. Your support is essential in helping us to provide the best learning experiences.

Have an enjoyable festive season. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2026.

Meri Kirihimete,

Nicole, Paula, Sam, Imogen and Emily.
