FORMAL NOTICE OF SCHOOL CLOSURE 23/10/25

FORMAL NOTICE OF SCHOOL CLOSURE 23/10/25

Kia ora e te whānau,

As you may be aware, members of NZEI Te Riu Roa have voted to undertake strike action on Thursday, 23 October.

This action will involve approximately 40,000 primary school teachers and support staff across the country, alongside secondary teachers and public health sector workers.

At Kaikorai School, the majority of our teaching and support staff, including the principal, are members of NZEI and will be participating in the strike from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. As a result, the school will be closed for the day on Thursday 23 October.

We understand that this may cause disruption for some families, and we appreciate your understanding and support. The decision to strike is not taken lightly. It reflects a broader call for improved resourcing and working conditions that ultimately benefit the learning and wellbeing of our tamariki.

The School Board would like to acknowledge and support our staff in their right to take this action, which aligns with our school’s values and our shared commitment to providing the best possible education for our children.

For more information about the industrial action, please visit the NZEI Te Riu Roa website.

Ngā mihi nui,
Rachael Jenkins
Presiding Member
Kaikorai School Board
