Week 10 Principal's News 26/6/26

I hope you have had a wonderful Week 10.

You should have received your child's report today from our school office email address. Occasionally, technical glitches in our Student Management System (Edge) can prevent a report from being sent. If you haven't received your child's, please let the office know so we can sort it out for you.

I have read all 310 reports, and I am incredibly proud of how our team has communicated your child's learning and progress. The genuine warmth in their general comments shines through - they know your children well.

We hope the information shared with you over the term, including last term’s parent curriculum evening, has been helpful in making sense of the new curriculum and our updated reporting expectations.

Our teachers are really looking forward to the whānau-teacher learning conversations next week.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support. We know that when home and school work in partnership, the magic truly happens.

Thank you in advance for your donations to the Whānau Refuge as we recognise and celebrate Matariki next week. As a reminder, we are collecting child-friendly snacks. Please send these to school with your child to drop off in their classroom.

Sunday comms and newsletters 📧

At Kaikorai, we keep our whānau very well informed by sending Sunday comms and thorough newsletters.

You should not be surprised by dates, events or upcoming activities as these are published with plenty of notice. Please take the time to engage with Sunday comms and weekly newsletters, noting the week's upcoming learning and activities.

Adverse weather - snow days and late starts ❄️

As colder weather arrives, here is a quick guide to how we handle school closures or late starts due to snow.

How Decisions Are Made

The Otago Primary Principals Association (OPPA) representatives coordinate any decisions regarding weather-related delays or cancellations. As soon as we receive this information, we will pass it on to you immediately.

Stay Informed

We will notify you of any changes via:

  • Seesaw: Direct message to all families.

  • Email: A newsletter sent to the address we have on file.

  • Facebook: A post on our official page (make sure you follow us!).

  • Radio: Listen to local stations or check their social media for regional updates.

Safety First

If school is open but you feel it is unsafe to travel from your area, please keep your children home and notify the office of their absence.

Walking school bus 🚶

Did you know we have a parent-led walking school bus that travels along Highgate each morning to school?

We would love it if others who live in and around the area joined, and parents volunteered to keep this going. It is a great way to start the day and build community connections. It also gets you away from the Highgate traffic jam!

If people are interested, please text Maria on 0210785724, and you can be added to the WhatsApp group so we can make plans

Lost property 👕

Action Required Before the Holidays!

All unclaimed and unnamed lost property from Term 2 will be washed and donated to charity over the upcoming holidays.

If your child is missing any clothing, please check the blue bin outside the hall or the bagged-up items in the office before the end of the term.

School fair: Container open times🧸

The container will be open to accept donations for our upcoming school fair this Sunday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Important Safety Rules

  • Driving In: The school gates will be open, so you can drive your donations right up to the container. However, to keep everyone safe, you must have a "spotter" walking in front of your vehicle as you enter and drive through the grounds.

  • Playground Users: If you and your children are using the school playground during this hour, please supervise them closely and expect moving vehicles on site.
