Kererū News-Term 3-Week 6
The last three weeks have been filled with exciting opportunities for our Kererū team. We have had production, OMAthlon, sports tournaments, Jump Jam, the disco, Active August and football sessions. The teachers in our team consistently go above and beyond to provide a vast array of experiences and opportunities for our students. I am always grateful for their mahi and commitment to providing extra opportunities for our Kaik Kids to partake in.
OMAthalon
This week, twelve students represented our school at the 2025 OMAthalon.
Thank you to the parents who supported us with transport to and from the event.
Congratulations to Seb, Genevieve, Toby and Betty for placing 1ST in the Year 6 event. These children also won the Year 5 OMAthalon in 2024.
Our OMAthalon students were Seb, Genievieve, Toby, Betty, Matteo, Artie, Anja, Luci, Beckett, Zack, Vincent and Robyn.
Writing Success
Neala and Carter's poems were recently entered in the Dunedin Youth Poetry competition. There were over 100 entries! Neala placed 3rd in the Year 5 category, and Carter placed 3rd in the Year 6 category. Both will attend the prizegiving today to read their poems and to receive their prizes.
Parishay has had success with the Layers of Identity project. Layers of Identity is a creative writing, podcast, and radio project featuring rangatahi (under 25) from Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Participants explore their whakapapa and cultural identity through original poems, essays, or speeches, and take part in a recorded interview about their story. The Dunedin City Council Arts Grant supports this project.

Congratulations to our incredible writers!
Disco
The disco was a huge success this week. The hall was filled with bright colours and bright lights. The vibe was amazing and we all had a great time. A huge thank you to our PALS who volunteered their time to ensure that all students who attended the disco had a great time. Our PALS are showing outstanding leadership in our school. We appreciate you!
Production
Our Kererū teachers are incredibly proud of our Tamariki for their enthusiasm and effort with our school production. It was a fabulous evening, and it was terrific seeing everything come together.
We want to extend a huge thank you to Miss Hardie and Mrs Armstrong for going the extra mile to ensure that our tamariki had a wonderful experience on the Regent Stage. The hours that they have put into this show do not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for their mahi.
Active August
Thank you for supporting Active August and Wacky Hat Day.
This month, we are encouraging our students to stay active by walking to school, even in cold weather. There will be spot prizes handed out during August for those who walk to school ten times.
