Week 4 Principal's News 15/5/26
Mid Year Reporting ✅
As you may have seen in the news, schools across Aotearoa are currently navigating significant updates to the national curriculum and reporting requirements. While these changes bring a heavy "cognitive load" for educators, our team is working hard to ensure a smooth transition for our students and whānau.
What’s New?
Our teachers have begun writing mid-year reports using a new platform. These reports will feature updated descriptions of your child’s learning that look and feel quite different from previous Kaikorai Primary reports.
To help you navigate these changes, our upcoming newsletters will include:
A breakdown of what to expect in the new report format.
Definitions of the new terminology being used.
Links to Ministry of Education resources for further clarity.
Save the Date: Whānau-Teacher Learning Conversations
Communication between home and school is vital as we move to this new system. We expect all parents to book a time to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their progress.
Monday, 30th June
Tuesday, 1st July
The booking portal will be shared with you later this term.
Support Staff Week 💚
Thank you, whānau, for the aroha you gave towards our support staff this week. It was really lovely seeing families dropping in cards and treats for our team. Our support staff are incredible and certainly deserve the recognition.
Kids' Sing 🎶
Next week, our Tūī and Kererū Hapori will join students from across Ōtepoti for the annual Kids’ Sing. This event is a wonderful celebration of music, and we are thrilled to have our Year 3-6 students involved.
Getting 200 children from Kaikorai ready to perform is no small feat! While most schools only send their choir or a select group of tamariki, we make a conscious decision to involve all our Year 3-6 students. We believe this ensures everyone has the opportunity to be part of a unique, large-scale performance they might not otherwise experience.
