Hurihia tō aroaro ki te rā tukuna tō ātārangi kia taka ki muri ki a koe - Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you. While we've faced more challenges this term, we have lots of positives to share with you.
As we near the end of the first term, we'd like to say a big thank you to everybody for your support, understanding, and hard work in the ever-changing response to the Covid19 situation. Children who have had to isolate have coped remarkably well settling back into their classroom routines.
Keeping Active
The athletics equipment that we had hired from Sport Otago has now been returned but there was lots of fun had by all classes in the middle syndicate. We look forward to hiring some other more unusual equipment from Sport Otago next term. Each class has also been doing a great job of utilising any space available for different activities - teachers and students are getting very good at adapting games to fit the spaces as needed on days when the weather is nice.
Middle Syndicate Envirogroup
We now have an Envirogroup in the middle syndicate that meets each Wednesday at lunchtime. During our first meeting, we talked about some of the things that have been happening around our school, and any things that we thought it would be great if our school could have. One thing that our Envirogroup talked a lot about was taking responsibility for our rubbish around the school - we'll have to think about how we can best manage this. We also talked about the trees that have been cut down to make room for the new admin building, and that we would love to plant some more things around the school. We had an important job to do for our second meeting which was to write some messages to be used for a Fresh Choice Community Fund application. We thought about the things that we had talked about in the first meeting and what we might be able to use the money for if we were successful in our application. We'll finalise this next week and then send our application in.
PBL (Project-Based Learning) and KPSTV
We are continuing with our work on how to showcase what's happening in our school to our community. In the next couple of weeks, students will be working hard to create their prototypes and final products to answer the driving question: How can we as Kaikorai kids, showcase our learning and space without having visitors allowed in? We look forward to sharing this with you.
Our KPSTV group has also now started with our planned ideas relating to sharing our KAIK values, and the fun things that happen at morning tea and lunchtime. Some groups have already written their scripts and will hopefully start filming next week.
Term 4: Swimming and Day Trip to Tirohanga
While it may seem like a long time away, we wanted to let you know that in Term 4 we will be having an 8 session block of swimming with Jill Clarke Swim School. There will be a cost of about $80 for the lessons and the bus for the 8 days.
We will also be heading out to Tirohanga for a fun day of activities including a bushwalk, initiative course, confidence course. The cost of this will be about $15 for the bus and using the facilities at Tirohanga.
