Welcome to Term 2

By Beth Downie | Posted: Monday April 25, 2022

I hope you and your whānau had a restful and healthy Easter break and your children are ready for an exciting term 2.

Welcome to Hannah Gold, the new teacher in Rūma whitu - Room 7.

We have several new students joining us this week, too - nau mai haere mai and welcome to Kaikorai School, Violet, Levi and Taylor, Lara, Charlotte, Hazel and whānau - it is great you are here.

Property update

The new classes are almost ready! We will have a blessing of these spaces just after the bell this Monday at 9:05 am. The classes will move into the new space after the blessing - we are very excited!

You are welcome to attend the blessing. Please wear a face mask if you come along. The blessing is being led by Vai Mahutariki and the senior kapa haka rōpu from OBHS and will conclude with kai - a biscuit or a piece of fruit.

The hall, green room and kitchen handover will be later in the term.

New classes

Rūma rima - Room 5 Miss Ward ( New Entrants)

Rūma whā - Room 4 Mrs McBeath

Rūma toru - Room 3 Miss Kinnaird

Rūma rua - Room 2 Mrs Kumar

Covid response

Covid 19 is still prevalent in our community, including several positive cases over the holidays. No doubt, case numbers will rise once we are back at school. While mask-wearing is no longer mandated in schools, we strongly encourage and recommend your children and our staff continue to wear masks while indoors. When we have assemblies, all children in the senior school will wear a mask.

If you need to come on-site, please wear a mask. You are welcome to pop in for a quick hi to your child's teacher before or after school, but if you wish to have an in-depth discussion, please schedule an appointment via email/seesaw.

We will keep all the other health measures in place at school that we know to slow the spread of COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriate physical distancing whenever we can and, most importantly, staying home if sick.

We are very much looking forward to showcasing our class assemblies again in our new hall. Your child's teacher will let you know when their class assembly is scheduled.
