The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition.

Every year over 22,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part. Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school. These events are designed to promote science and engineering.

The competition started at Kaikorai with with 6 teams of our senior students working together to earn a place in the semi finals. We can't wait to open up this opportunity to all seniors next year.

The Kaikorai Aces made up of Holly, Eva, Noah and Angus competed in the semi-finals at DNI last week. Each team had two and a half hours to complete an impressive challenge of their choice. Kaikorai decided to create a working vending machine taking out second place and moving them into the final.

The finals took place the next night and it was a real nail-biter! Teams could choose out of four challenges based all around a concert which was to be held in Dunedin. The challenges included making a self-playing drum kit, a spotlight system for the concert, a speaker made out of a bucket or measuring and creating a mosh pit.

It was a tight competition but after two and a half hours and an exciting tie-breaker, Kaikorai were the grand champions!

Congratulations to Holly, Eva, Noah and Angus who made Kaikorai proud with their amazing teamwork and problem-solving skills.
