Titiro whakamuri kōkiri whakamua - look back and reflect so you can move forward
It has been so fantastic to recognise and celebrate Mānawatia Matariki with our community these last few weeks. Matariki is a time to look to the future, reflect on the past and enjoy the company of others. As a school, we certainly have been reflecting on the changes our school have seen this year. Our school continues to physically change shape as the rebuild develops, staff have changed throughout the year, we have had children come and go and we are always and continually evolving. But the constant in our school is the positivity and enthusiasm of our learners and our staff. I hope those that joined in with the celebrations felt the warmth of our school and our community during this special time.
I was pleased to see over 240 parent interviews booked this week. We know when the home school partnership is strong, that's when the magic happens for our learners. I hope you found the interviews and the written report useful, you know where your child is with their learning and what their next learning steps are. If you don't know - please let me know as it means we need to communicate this information better.
Staffing news
Today we say farewell to Harriet Kinnaird and thank her for her contributions to the children on Rūma toru. Although Harriet's time with us has been short, she certainly has made an impact on the staff and students of Kaikorai. We wish Harriet all the best for her overseas adventures. ✈. We welcome Miss Portia Parmenter to Kaikorai in Term 3.
Maggie Adlam finishes with us at the end of week 2 Term 3. Best wishes to Maggie, Glen and Freya as they welcome their new baby soon. Welcome, Mrs Glenda Thomas to the Kaikorai staff. Glenda will be teaching in Rūma waru 11 am-1 pm.
Winter illnesses have hit us hard these last few weeks. Not only Covid but influenza and vomiting bugs. Thank you to the amazing team at Kaikorai who worked in many different roles over the last few weeks. They all deserve a restful and well-earned winter holiday.
Your children are tired too - but you probably know that! I hope that they recharge their batteries and refill their metaphorical cups and we look forward to an exciting term 3.
