Ka mahuta a Matariki i te pae, ka mahuta o tatou tūmanako ki te tau. When Matariki rises above the horizon, our aspirations rise to the year ahead.

Matariki

It was wonderful to celebrate Matariki at school with so many of you.  There was lots of learning prior to our Matariki breakfast, to help students understand the many different ways that people celebrate Matariki.  Highlights of our Matariki celebrations were getting to enjoy some kai with friends and whānau, spending time working with buddy classes, and getting to perform in the hall.

Here are a couple of poems that were written and shared at our assembly:

Stars shining in the dark night sky.Grandparents telling stories about their ancestors.Whānau celebrating by eating kai and kaimoana.Children making and flying kites like crazy.Adults planting green fresh plants.Kaumatua and whānau gazing at the bright shining stars.Humans celebrating with whānau and friends. Jumping June

Our middles students have been so enthusiastic about improving their skipping skills over the last 4 or 5 weeks.  The skipping ropes quickly got snapped up during break times as everybody was working hard to show their new skills to friends.  It was great to celebrate all their hard work by ending Jumping June with a buddy class skipping session.

A whopping $14,383 has been raised for the Heart Foundation from Jumping June. Ka pai for the effort put in to skipping and fundraising!  A reminder that prizes can be ordered on the Jumping June website until the 8th of July.

Life Education Bus

We have all had some fun and educational sessions in the Life Education Bus.  Through our sessions on the bus, we learnt all about the digestive system. We also looked at the effect that different foods have on our health.  Hopefully, children have been able to share some fun facts with you about what they have been learning.

Farewell to Miss Kinnaird

We would like to wish Miss Kinnaird all the best for the adventure she is about to embark on.  She has been a valuable member of the middle syndicate and although we are sad to see her leave, we wish her all the best for her travels.

We would like to welcome Miss Portia Parmenter who will be the new teacher in Rūma Toru (Room 3) from the beginning of next term.

Tu Meke Tumuaki

We'd like to say a well done and a big thank you to Ms Downie for all her hard work this year.  As part of a  new initiative to recognise the contribution principals make to education, classes have been talking about all the ways that Ms Downie supports their education and well-being at our school.

He aroha whakatō, he aroha puta mai.  If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive.

Finally, we would like to wish you all a wonderful holiday.

Ngā mihi,

Amy McBeath, Jill Kumar, Harriet Kinnaird
