Over the last few weeks our students have had opportunities to be part of Cross Country and Book Week. Thank you for supporting these school community events.
We have a super busy term planned for our wonderful group of learners.
Next week we will take part in the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme.
What will children and young people learn?
They will learn:
to work out when their safety is at risk
how to keep safe when they meet and mix with other people
who and how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused
to go on asking for help until someone does something to stop the abuse
that it is important to make and follow personal, family and school safety rules.
They will know:
that abuse is never okay
that abuse is never their fault.
What part do parents, caregivers and whānau play?
Parents and whānau are strongly encouraged to support Keeping Ourselves Safe.
You can attend a meeting at school to tell you more about Keeping Ourselves Safe.
You can find out about abuse and what to do if you think a child you know is being abused.
You can talk to your child about what they have learnt in Keeping Ourselves Safe.
You can set safety guidelines with your family.
You can help young children with the Keeping Ourselves Safe activities they bring home.
You can give the same safety messages as the school is giving.
This term, our classes will visit the art gallery. We will require parent helpers for these trips. Please complete the Google Form link to give your child permission to attend and to volunteer as a parent helper.
Scout’s Winter Challenge
During August of Term 3, all children will be given a card, and every time they walk or wheel to and/or from school, they will get their card marked. Once they have walked or wheeled ten times, children can exchange this for a Scout sticker, and a new card and then the completed card goes into the draw to win a spot prize. What's more, Scout will visit our school on Friday the 16th of September. Scout will provide warm hot chocolate or hot blackcurrant to children who have walked to school that morning. Please bring a plastic mug for a warm drink at the gate.
Last week Ella B, Eli M and Levi C won spot prizes.
Year 6 Camp News
We will be having a camp meeting on Thursday the 25th of August at 6:30 pm for parents who are interested in learning more about what happens at school camp and for parents wishing to volunteer time at school camp this year.
During this meeting, we will discuss how the camp will run for 2022 and answer any questions that you may have.
Our camp dates are Tuesday the 22nd of November -Friday the 25th of November.
Student consent forms and parent volunteers forms will be sent out after the camp meeting.
Project Based Learning
This term, we are exploring everything arts based! Classes will be participating in drama activities, visual arts and a variety of music and dance lessons throughout the term in the lead-up to hitting the stage for our whole school production. This will be taking place on Wednesday, September the 28th, in Week 10.
We started this project with a team disco. The students demonstrated their best dance moves, and we have a performance from one of our fabulous Jump Jam teams.
Wig Wednesday
Every week in New Zealand, three families are told the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. The treatment these children undergo often means they need to brave the world with no hair.
On Wednesday the 7th of September, Kaikorai Primary School will support Wig Wednesday. Wear a favourite wig or style a funky hairdo while raising money for the Child Cancer Foundation.
Bring along a gold coin donation to support these children and their whānau.
