Junior News

Production time is such a fun and exciting time of year! Walking past the junior classes you are likely to hear singing and see dancing. The beaming smiles on the children's faces during this time make the hard work all worthwhile! We cannot wait to see the many hours of practice come together on production night on the 28th of September. Save the date!

We are loving that our production is based on fairytales. We are making the most of listening to them - new and old. Many classes have been doing art based on fairytales and writing their own ones.

Alongside production practice, we are creating invitations for our PBL. Last Friday we had our Entry Event - The Junior Dance Party! On Friday morning each class received an invitation inviting them to the dance part in the Junior Learning Street. This was such a fun way to end the week! We are now beginning to look at different invitations and discussing the specific information they need to include to determine what makes a good invitation. Stay tuned for our final invitations coming home in a few weeks.

Last Friday saw the return of class assemblies. Rūma Rima and Rūma Tekau mā toru kicked things off with a wonderful display of beautiful art, sock puppets and a video of some sneaky antics! It was so special to welcome parents back in and to have the whole school together as one. Thank you Miss Dunn for all your hard work on our assembly! We look forward to many more class assemblies this year!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to get in contact with your child's teacher.

Many thanks for your continued support!

Rūma Whitu Writing Stars

Rūma Whitu have been learning about the elements of a fairy tale. We have looked at how we can use describing words to create a picture in the reader's head of a story's setting. Check out our palace setting descriptions and see if you have imagine what our palaces look like.

As the clouds disappear I can see a palace far away in the distance! It looks like it is in the hundred acre woods. When I got there I could hear laughing, I peek in and saw what was making the racket. Guess what was inside? It was made on golden glass. It is night time now and the palace is glowing.

As I walked through the dark woods in the distance I can see a shiny castle. The colours of it are black and red. As I walk into the castle I can hear a person screaming. I think this castle is haunted.

Once upon a time there was a gigantic palace. When I opened the door I saw a dance party. There was lots of music and the girls wanted me to join in. When I hopped into the castle I saw the lights turn off. Lots of fire flies lit up the room until a rainbow appeared.

This castle is haunted. In the castle there are venomous snakes and skeletons and even tarantulas and scorpions. It is dark and spooky in the castle. It has lots of spooky hiding spots and zombies.

I can see a magical palace as beautiful as a rainbow on a sunny morning day. It looks like it is sparkly and smooth around it. When I got in it I heard people singing and laughing. I heard music playing. The music was called nothing. The people are making rainbow potions. They are making a tree! It is a rainbow tree. A queen, princess and king are in the palace.

I see a spooky palace in the deep forest. I hear a poisonous snake hiding in the vents. The palace is big like a castle.

The palace is dark. It looks so beautiful as it shines in the forest. The palace has some glass gates. It has some beautiful animals at the front. There is a cat, dog and bird.

The palace is a devil, there is a face. It is haunted with venomous snakes. They were sliding on the walls. There is a secret moat around the palace. The face disappeared!

There is a palace. I walked into the palace and I heard a noise. It sounded like Mommy Longlegs. The noise sounded like it was coming close to me. The palace is spooky and it was built before people were made.

As I looked down at the castle it was as tall as a mouse. I went inside I saw glasses of blood and cute vampire ducks quacking lovingly. I was squished. The floors were made of dried blood.
