Mauri tū, mauri ora ~ An active soul is a healthy soul.
Term 3 PBL - Happy, Healthy, and Active: Inspiring Wellness Warriors
This term, we will be exploring through PBL how to answer the driving question: How can we encourage healthy living for ourselves and others? Classes have already begun looking different parts of healthy living such as exercise, nutrition, and wellbeing.
Our first milestone for this project is to 'Explore ways that we can be active, healthy, and happy.' As part of this, we have registered our students to participate in the Zespri Young and Healthy Virtual Adventure program! This fantastic initiative, brought to us by the Young and Healthy 2019 Charitable Trust, has provided free entry to our students all thanks to the generous support of partners like Zespri International, ASICS NZ, Azion Wellness, as well as 5-Plus-A-Day and Sparklers.
The main goal of this program is to encourage primary-aged children to embrace a healthier lifestyle by staying active, consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables, staying hydrated with water, and adopting other healthy habits. As they engage in real-world activities, the students earn points that advance their class along a captivating virtual global adventure course, all in the company of their classmates.
This virtual adventure beginning on 15th August will give them opportunities to learn about the rich history and diverse cultures of the places they "visit." To add to the excitement, they will have the privilege of receiving health and wellbeing tips from some of New Zealand's sporting legends and ASICS Ambassadors.
As always, if you have any expertise in any areas that fit with health and wellbeing, we would love to hear from you and how you may be able to support our learning.
Daily Run
Now that we have more space in our playground, we have also been joining together for a middle syndicate run (weather dependent). The aim of this is to build up our fitness. Before we begin the run, we talk about trying our best and working hard to improve our own fitness. It is important that children are wearing suitable footwear and clothing to help them participate with ease.
Class & Syndicate Assemblies
Room 2 and 4 were able to showcase their learning about space and other fun activities last term. In week 4, Room 3 will have their chance to showcase what they have been learning about so far this term.
In terms 1 and 2, we also had regular syndicate assemblies where students worked together to learn and discuss our school values, Zones of Regulation, mindfulness, as well as build our musical knowledge through songs and activities. This term we will be meeting every two weeks. A key focus will be looking at how our school values, Zones of Regulation, mindfulness, and music fit with our current PBL, and supporting our students in making meaningful connections.
