We have recently expanded our team to cover the Otago region with occupational and speech-language therapists and are now offering Counselling services.
As well as Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy, Counselling can help children/Families for a variety of reasons including:
We are currently seeking children aged 6-10 years who often daydream, are inattentive, sleepy, and/or hyperactive, as well as children who do not display these behaviours to take part in our study. As part of our study, parents/guardians are required to complete a brief log about their child's sleep for one week and attend a one-off 3–4-hour session at the University with their child. These sessions are primarily held in the weekends and school holidays. With parental consent, their child's teacher will also be contacted to see whether they are willing to complete brief questionnaires about the child's functioning at school, as well as for a trained postgraduate student to conduct a brief observation in their classroom.
Our research will help inform whether children’s cognitive engagement is linked to their sleep, alongside how these factors influence children’s day-to-day functioning (e.g. academic and emotional functioning). Such research will also inform whether specific interventions need to be created, or existing interventions need to be altered to best support children’s learning, development, and well-being.
If you have any questions about our study or would like to know more information, please do not hesitate to contact me or my supervisor, Associate Professor Dione Healey ([email protected]).
These school holidays come along to the Marine Studies Centre! In the first week, we will be running Virtual Reality programmes and Tours of the lab, giving you and your whānau/children/students/friends a fun and interesting day out by the ocean!
The Dunedin Brick Show is a very popular event for children of all ages. We would love to see children of all ages enjoying themselves creating with LEGO, admiring the fantastic LEGO displays and entering the competitions that are attached. The show is being held at the MoreFM Arena, Edgar Centre, on September 30th and October 1st.
