The ASB St John in Schools programme provides learning experiences for pre-school, primary and intermediate school aged children to empower them to act in an emergency.

Some classes have already had the experience of St John in Schools in their classes this week and others will have their sessions next week. Each class will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced St John ambulance employee and gain new knowledge of what to do in an emergency through hands on, interactive activities.

Years NE, 1 and 2 Modules

Responding to an Emergency - Explore emergencies and identify when 111 needs to be called, how to call 111 and learn ways to help before an ambulance arrives.

Keeping Safe - Recognise the danger of falls and poisons, and how injuries can be avoided. Identify potentialrisks at home and at school, and explore makingsafe decisions.

Years 3 and 4 Modules

Responding to an Emergency - How to check for dangers around patients and check for a response. Practice placing unresponsive patients on their side and how to treat severe bleeding.

Keeping Safe - How to prevent falls at home and at school. Recognise appropriate safety equipment for outdoor activities, and how to treat minor injuries.

Years 5 and 6 Modules

Responding to an Emergency - Assess patients using DRSAB and take appropriate action. Describe appropriate responses to different situations requiring first aid.

Keeping Safe - Explore how to prevent injuries in the playground. Identify hazards and risks to themselves and others in a variety of environments.

Ask your child all about it and see if they can tell you what to do in an emergency!
