What’s On?

-Class visits to Otago Girl’s High School to work in the science laboratory

-Art lessons with John Neumegen from the Outreach Programme.

-Life Education Bus visits

-Calendar Art

PBL

Our learners are actively participating in a wide range of science experiments as part of our Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach. In the Otago Girls’ science laboratory, they used a Bunsen burner to conduct various experiments. Students made sparklers and auroras and tested the reactions of various chemicals when heated. In class, students have conducted a variety of experiments following the scientific method. Some activities students have participated in are making ice cream and exploring topics such as sound, rockets, boomerangs, making and racing boats, dancing raisins, balance, and magnets. This hands-on approach to learning is a key part of our curriculum.

Otago Girls’ High School Visits

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Vicki Millar from Otago Girls’ High School for giving up her time to allow our tamariki to visit the science laboratory and conduct exhilarating science experiments using the Bunsen Burners.

Calendar Art

This term, we are creating calendar art for school fundraising. More information will be sent home soon. Once the art is completed, it will be posted on your child’s SeeSaw page for viewing.

Life Education Bus

This week, our visits to the Life Education Bus began. While visiting the bus, our learners will focus on the following:

-How can we manage our big emotions?

How we feel can influence what we do and say. Students explore the consequences of this and recognise how each individual is responsible for their own actions.

-How can our feelings influence the way we act?

Students explore why some emotions can be uncomfortable. Is it OK to feel angry, sad, or worried? What can we do with these feelings?

-Why is it important to think about how we communicate with others online?

Students explore how communicating with others online affects and shapes our relationships. How is it similar to face-to-face communication? How is it different?

Royal New Zealand Ballet

Last week, students had an opportunity to sign up for a dance workshop with Neve Pierce from the RNZB. The children learned an excerpt of the "Danse des petits cygnes" (Dance of the Little Swans) from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
