Na te whakarongo me te titiro ka puta mai te korero - Through looking and listening, we gain wisdom.
PBL - Project Based Learning
To deepen their understanding, different classes have been conducting experiments around states of matter, forces, and energy. As they engage in these hands-on activities, they have been working through the scientific method. Some students have also been learning about scientific ideas through dance and drama, giving them a chance to explore and represent scientific ideas in imaginative ways.
In addition to traditional experiments, students have been researching various topics, delving into scientific literature, and utilising new equipment to construct models of pulleys, levers, and other simple machines. Through this, there have been many opportunities to discuss the importance of simple machines in our everyday lives.
As we progress through the term, our efforts are directed towards our final milestone: a presentation of science experiments to our peers. Student groups will showcase their favourite experiments. Each presentation will highlight the students' abilities as budding scientists, demonstrating their grasp of the scientific method and their collaborative problem-solving skills.
Life Education Bus
Next week, all of our classes will have some sessions with Harold in the Life Education Bus. Our sessions in the bus, and our follow up activities back in the classroom will be based around the following questions:
What do we need to know about the food we eat?
It is important to understand what we are eating, and what it will do for our body. Students will learn about where food comes from, and the different ways in which it affects our health.
What influences our food choices?
In society today, factors influencing what we choose to eat or drink are all around us. Students explore what factors may influence them, and why.
What are body systems and how do they work?
Body systems are made up of body parts that work together to complete specific roles, such as the digestive system processing our food. Students explore the different systems and how they work together to keep us alive and healthy.
Calendar Fundraiser & Art with John Neumegen
We have been busy working on our art for the calendar fundraiser. As these pieces of art are completed, they will be posted on Seesaw for you to see. It has been wonderful to see the range of artistic skills displayed by students in each class.
Room 2 have had a fantastic session with John Neumegen from the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, as part of the education outreach programme. They learned about and created some art relating to the the challenges of gold mining in Gabriels Gully.
Later in the term, Rooms 3 and 4 will go on a journey through a fairy tale using images of artworks from the Art Gallery’s collection. Can they rescue Gretel from the giant's mountain fortress and escape the clutches of trolls, wolves and wicked queens on the way?
