From Monday 13 May - Friday 17 May, the tamariki at Kaikorai will be diving into activities that promote their wellbeing.
Each day, you'll find Senior "Morning Greeters" alongside Ms Downie on Wright Street and the kaiako on Tyne St, welcoming their peers with smiles to kickstart a positive day. Mrs Ferguson will also drop by classrooms during the week to teach sessions on bullying, friendships, mindfulness and emotional regulation.
On Monday, we focus on connection—me whakawhanaunga—encouraging talking, listening, being present, and feeling connected. Students are urged to explore the groups and clubs offered by Kaikorai, fostering new connections with peers in diverse ways. Syndicates may gather for group activities like singing or team-building games.
Tuesday emphasises activity—me kori tonu—encouraging students to do what they can, enjoy their activities, and improve their mood through movement. Our PALS group will lead active fun and games, with classrooms incorporating movement breaks. Students are encouraged to bike, scooter, or walk to school weather permitting.
Wednesday centres on mindfulness—me aro tonu—encouraging students to find joy in simple things, practice breathing techniques, engage in peaceful activities like colouring or listening to music, and notice the little joys around them.
Thursday promotes continuous learning—me ako tonu—encouraging students to embrace new experiences, see opportunities, and surprise themselves with new learnings. Activities challenge students' minds, from learning words in a new language to tackling challenging puzzles.
Friday is about giving—tukua—encouraging students to give their time, words, and presence to others. It's also PINK SHIRT DAY, with activities focused on kindness, empathy, and addressing bullying in our school assembly.
If you'd like to share your knowledge or skills in any of these areas, please reach out to Mrs Ferguson. [email protected]
