Tuwhitia te hopo! Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway!
Kia Ora Kererū Families,
The last three weeks have been busy! Reflecting on them, I realise it's been an incredibly action-packed time here at school! Our students have embraced a whirlwind of activities with enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork.
Thank you, parents, for making the logistics of these events possible! With your help transporting and completing permission forms, our students enjoyed learning experiences that included swimming lessons, water safety training (featuring life jackets!), and school athletics. We also had school photographs capturing memories of what will be the final year at Kaikorai for our Year 6 students. We want to share some highlights from our recent events.
Students enjoyed Crazy Hair Day, showing off some truly imaginative styles. The day's purpose was to teach kids about blood cancer, the impact treatment has on a patient's hair and why it is so important to show solidarity for these Kiwis.
Our PALS Celebration Day also created a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment as we honoured their positive behaviour, leadership and teamwork. We are so fortunate to have such an incredible group of PALS this year. PALS applications are now open for 2025, and they are rolling in. A copy of the application form is attached to this newsletter. It is great that many of our students want to take on leadership responsibility at school next year. Please check out the article below to read more about the PALS Celebration Day.
We were thrilled to host Author Visits where students could learn from talented writers, sparking a renewed interest in reading and storytelling. Our Kaik musicians had a fantastic time at the Orchestra Workshop and Ukulele Jam.
Adding to the excitement, our students attended the Balmacewen School Show and participated in North Zone and school athletics, showcasing their talents and energy.
Looking ahead, we have even more exciting adventures planned. The Year 5 Outdoor Education Week and Camp is just around the corner, taking place from Tuesday, November 26th to Friday, November 29th. This will be an unforgettable experience filled with outdoor challenges and team-building opportunities. You should have received all the information about these activities. If you have not received correspondence, please email [email protected]for camp information or [email protected] for information about the Year 5 activity week.
With so many activities on the calendar, please check SeeSaw messages regularly to stay updated on all upcoming events and details. As we approach the end of the year, there's so much more to enjoy, and we look forward to your continued support in making these experiences possible for our students.
Thank you again for all your support!
Warm regards,
Bridget McDowall, Rosarah Hardie, Hannah Sims and Hannah Jones
PALS CELEBRATION DAY 2024
Logan Park was splashed with colours last Thursday as Sport Otago hosted the PALS Celebration Day. This annual event brought together Physical Activity Leaders (PALS) from schools across Dunedin for a day filled with fun, games, and well-deserved recognition.
From the start, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as PALS showcased their skills, leading engaging activities and games for younger students. Their hard work and dedication over the past year in promoting physical activity at their schools were celebrated, highlighting their impact in encouraging active lifestyles.
A highlight of the day was the pizza lunch, where students could relax, enjoy a delicious meal, and bond over shared experiences. But the fun didn't stop there! The day wrapped up with an unforgettable colour run and water slide. The PALS dashed through vibrant clouds of coloured powder, transforming them into walking rainbows by the end. The water slide added an extra thrill, making it a fantastic end to the event.
Thank you to Sport Otago for organising a memorable day and celebrating our amazing PALS! Their leadership and enthusiasm inspire our Kaik kids to stay active and enjoy sports.
Thank you, 2024 PALS! You were fabulous leaders this year!
