Emily Armstrong - Teacher in Room 11 and Pīwakawaka Team Leader
Kia ora koutou,
My name is Emily Armstrong. I previously taught at Andersons Bay School for many years before joining the wonderful team here at Kaikorai Primary School as the Pīwakawaka Hapori Leader and teacher of the Year 1/2 children in Room 11. Outside of teaching, I have two teenage sons and I enjoy sharing my passion for dance, teaching here in Dunedin and around NZ.
I'm thrilled to be part of the Kaikorai community and look forward to an exciting year ahead!
Kane McKay - Teacher in Room 3 - Rūma Toru
Kia ora koutou, I am Kane. I am a beginning teacher, having just completed my Masters of Teaching and Learning at Otago in 2024. This year, I am working in the senior school in Rūma Toru. It has been awesome getting to know the tamariki and fellow staff members over this first couple weeks of school.
In my spare time, I like to keep active by playing various sports and spending time with my kuri totiti (sausage dog). I am very grateful to be a part of the Kaikorai community and look forward to meeting more of you in the future.
Kā mihi nui,
Maria Daniel - Pīwakakwaka literacy support.
Kia ora, I have recently completed postgraduate studies focusing on inclusive education practices, with a strong emphasis on the science of reading. Throughout my adult life, I have lived between New Zealand and Australia, embracing diverse educational environments. My teaching experience spans from kindergarten through to intermediate.
In my free time I enjoy going on adventures with my children who love mountain biking, bodyboarding, and camping. This year, I am excited to collaborate with the Junior School teaching team to support children to experience success on their reading journey.
Garrand Diedrichs - Teacher in Room 3 - Rūma Toru on Fridays
Kia ora! I’ve recently returned to Dunedin after spending the past two years teaching at the Catlins Area School in Ōwaka. I’m passionate about teaching and dedicated to helping students reach their full potential. Outside of the classroom, you’ll often find me playing music or exploring nature. I believe in making learning enjoyable and encouraging students to pursue their own interests. I’m excited to reconnect with the Kaikorai team and Room 3, and together, we’ll make this year one of growth, learning, and exploration!
We also welcome Beatrice, Tessa and Jess, student teachers from the University of Otago - College of Education, to Kaikorai Primary School.
