He aroha whakatō he aroha puta mai - If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive.

The Pīwakawaka team have had a great start to Term 1, settling into class routines and getting to know everyone within our classroom community. We have completed lots of ‘getting to know me’ activities, and have been building friendly and welcoming class cultures.

A warm welcome to all the new students, and their families, joining us in Pīwakawaka.

The children in the Piwakawaka team love doing daily fitness together, and enjoyed our first ‘Meet in the Street’ assembly on Monday. We are working on demonstrating our Kaik value of Kindness this term. We loved playing hungerball!

This term's PBL (Project Based Learning) focus, "Welcome to the Neighbourhood" will be about exploring our wider community. Through play and hands-on activities, we will discover all the amazing places, cultures and people that make up Kaikorai's community. We will learn the history of Kaikorai with Whaea Ana next week, and are looking forward to visiting Yvette William’s later on in the term.

You will see some homework starting to come home now. Please support your child each night with their spelling words, reading words or books, basic facts or number knowledge, and sharing their weekly poem.

We are having a fun time at swimming- thanks to all the parents who are coming along to support us with changing. We have 3 more swimming lessons next week.

We encourage independence both in the classroom and outside. You can help your child become more independent by asking them to carry their own bag, unpack/pack their own bag, and help organise and keep track of their belongings.

It was lovely to meet many of you at the Meet the Teacher Night. If any questions or concerns arise during the term, please speak to your child's teacher.

We are looking forward to a great term ahead.

Ngā mihi nui
