Welcome to Room 10!

Welcome to Room 10 for 2017! I am looking forward to meeting you all over the coming week and having a fun filled year with your children!

My name is Felicia Ward and I have been teaching for the last two years at St Albans Primary in Christchurch. I am so excited to be back living in Dunedin closer to my family who live on a small farm in Balclutha. As well as having a love of sport particularly netball, I enjoy art, technology and spending time in Wanaka with friends and family.

Me Bags

This week we will spend getting to know each other and settling back into class routines. We will be presenting ‘Me Bags’ to the class in the first two weeks. Each student is asked to fill a bag with a selection of items that represent them as a person. Students will present their bags to the class and explain how each item relates to their life. Some examples may include a picture of family, favourite movie/book/CD or awards they have received.

Be creative and have fun!

Homework

Once the reading programme gets underway, your child will bring a reading book home from Monday to Thursday and a poem will come home on Friday for reading over the weekend.

On a Monday, your child will bring home their spelling notebook with 5-8 words to learn for the week. Spelling notebooks should come stay in reading folders so they can be used during class time.

‘Kaik’ Values

This term our ‘KAIK’ value is ‘Kind.’

Inquiry

Our topics of inquiry for this term are:

  • Fill Your Bucket With Kindness

  • Waitangi Day

  • Birds

  • Leaping into Literacy through ‘The Arts.’

Fun Friday

Fun Friday will begin in week 3 (Friday 17th February) and run for 6 weeks. Our sessions begin at 1.30pm and finish at 2.45pm. If you are able to give up an hour of your time on a Friday afternoon, this would be very much appreciated.

PMP

PMP will take place on a Monday at 2.15 and Wednesday at 1.30. This will begin in week 3 (Monday 13th February) and run for 6 weeks. We encourage all children to wear suitable clothing on PMP days e.g. a t-shirt and leggings, track pants or shorts for ease of movement. For this programme to be of maximum benefit to children, we do require parent support each session.

Communication

Throughout the year I will send out weekly newsletters to explain our learning focus for the week and events that are coming up. I am looking into using either an app called classdojo or seesaw as a way to share our learning online. Further information about this will come in the next few weeks.

If you have any questions or concerns please just ask. I will be available before and after school most days or via email at: [email protected]

Thanks,

Felicia Ward
