During book week our focus is on encouraging the children to read more and to share the books and stories they love.
Children are encouraged to keep a diary of when and what they read
during this week. We plan to have different teachers reading a favourite
story to different classes after playtime each day and to have buddy
class reading after lunch each day also. On Thursday 29th it will be a
dress up day as our favourite book character. Please be imaginative in
helping your child think of a favourite book character dress -up without
going to too much expense.
Monday - Bring a favourite book to share.
Tuesday - Bring the oldest book you have.
Wednesday - Bring the smallest
book you have.
Thursday - Dress up day... bring the book to match your
outfit.
Friday - Book swap day. Bring a blanket and some books you don’t
read anymore to swap with others.
Scholastic Books are putting on a
pirate themed book fair during this week. The book fair will be set up
in the kitchen throughout book week. Parents and children are welcome to
browse and buy from 8.30am to 9.00am and 3.00pm to 3.30pm every day.
Things to think about…How often do you go to the book bus with your
child or to the library? Do your children see you reading?
This week is a
good chance for families to read a chapter story together each night.
Even if your child is an independent reader they still need to be read
to on a regular basis preferably nightly.
Junior Classes. We invite parents, grandparents, friend, relatives to come to the classroom and read a favourite book with their child or a group of children on Thursday from 2.15-2.45.
No homework next week apart from reading. Some interesting research has come out about the importance of reading over all other homework.
Happy Reading everyone.!!!!
