Danger!

Is threatening behaviour, swearing and lying becoming more evident at Kaikorai School?

Now that I have your attention, I can thankfully say that the children are not displaying these behaviours.

It is a small but increasing number of parents and grandparents in their cars and their attitude to the road patrol volunteers has frankly been appalling.

In the last two weeks we have had at least six instances of drivers refusing to move on or even abusing our volunteers.  This behaviour is completely unacceptable.

Let me be very clear

  • At no times can you park on yellow lines.  This includes "drop offs and pick up."
  • Do not park over drive ways.
  • U turns should not be made in the crossing areas.
  • The 5 min park is for no longer than 5 minutes.  This ensures that everyone can get a park and collect their child.

Some helpful tips

  • The walking bus is a great way for kids to get to school.  It leaves from Ross St each morning and is a stress-less way for you and your child to get to school.
  • Arrange to meet in one the more quiet streets ( Selkirk Street, Fifield Street, School Street)  A short walk for a child of any age will increase their independence and health.
  • Use the two controlled crossing on Wright and Tyne St.  By using these crossing you are also displaying great role modelling!

The Police and DCC parking services will be doing extra checks over the next few weeks.  I will be sending any registration plate numbers of illegal parkers to the Police.

We can do better than this.  As a parent be a role model!
