What to do when things get hard...

The senior classes are all exploring the concept of Significance in slightly different ways. The aspects we are learning about include:

· Being resilient when things get hard

· The actions of some people have significant effects

· It is important to aim high and not to give up

· Everyone can make a difference

· People can develop strategies to cope

This all has strong links to the current Olympic Games in Rio, the history of the Olympics and the people who created them, and also setting goals for yourself and striving to achieve them. We are using newspaper articles, video screening, web site searches and book resources to gather information.

An exciting part of this study is that the senior classes are now creating their own Olympic Games’ celebrations for groups of children from our neighbouring preschools. Groups will be developing all the important aspects of the Games in creating a flag for each preschool, an anthem (song), game events and the medals.

Room 1 continues to have their long inquiry into Bee Keeping for the Urban Concept Farm, which is coordinated with Kaikorai Valley College. We have included our video clip, which explains some of our learning about Bee Keeping.
