Room 9 Term 2 News!

To all Families.  Welcome to Term 2! I trust that you had a well-earned rest over the Easter and holiday break, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

We have another very busy term ahead of us in Room 9. Highlights of the term will be preparing for our part in the school movie, as well as participating in ‘Kaikville’ – a financial literacy initiative.

Here is what is happening this term:

‘Kaik’ Values

This term our ‘KAIK’ value is ‘Aspiring.’

Term 2 Context

This term, our context is ‘Financial Literacy.’

During weeks 3-7, the entire school will become a mini society, entitled ‘Kaikville.’ Students will ‘apply for jobs’ and work to earn money, through creating products to sell. This will conclude with a Kaikville Market Day on Friday 16th June, where children can spend their ‘wages’ or save it for a later date, if they wish.

Inquiry

Our topics of inquiry for this term are:

‘Carnival of the Animals’ – Music unit.

‘Kaikville’ – Financial Literacy inquiry.

‘Movie Making’ - Dance, Music and Drama

Make it Monday

‘Make it Monday’ takes the place of ‘Fun Friday.’ It will begin in week 3 and run through until week 8, inclusive. This junior programme begins at 1.30pm and finishes at 2.45pm. If you are able to help support this programme by giving up your time, please let me know. Your support is very much appreciated.

PMP

PMP will continue to take place on a Monday and Wednesday morning at 9.05 – 9.40am.  Again, if you have a spare half an hour to help support this programme, please let me know. I encourage all children to wear suitable clothing on PMP days for easy movement.

Library

Our library time will continue to be Friday at 9.00am. Your child will need to have their library books returned to the library container in the classroom, by Friday morning.

Homework

Thank you to those parents who listen to their child read their reading book each night, as well as help them to learn their spelling words. Just a reminder - please fill in the reading log at the front of your child’s poem book each night too. ‘Reading Mileage’ is very important in helping your child to become a confident, enthusiastic, life-long reader.

Well done to those children who are regularly supporting the class maths programme at home, through participating in ‘Mathletics’ and ‘Xtramaths.’ I find that just a few minutes on a regular basis really does help children to commit their basic facts to memory, and build strong foundations in their mathematical knowledge and understandings.

Communication and Parent/Teacher Partnership

It is lovely to see parents popping into the classroom to see their child’s work on display, either before school or after school. Please do pop in whenever you can, as this is a very important aspect of Room 9 culture. We love seeing you! Children in Room 9 are always keen to share their work on display around the room and are very proud of their efforts.

Once again, I am always available to talk to you before school on any day, or on Wednesday-Friday afternoons (On these days, I have no after school meetings or duty).

Alternatively you can e-mail me any time at:

Thank you for your continued and valued support,

Paula Fisher
