Dear Parents, welcome back to school! Term 4 promises to be a short term, packed with a variety of learning experiences and opportunities for all children in Room 9. Here is what is happening in Term 4:

‘Kaik’ Values

This term our ‘KAIK’ value is ‘Keen

· To be confident.

· To try new activities.

· To make new friends.

Term 4 Context

This term, our context is ‘Structures.’

Our understandings around this context are:

· Structures have parts that interrelate.

· Structures have parts that support and are supported.

· Structures may combine to form larger structures.

· A structure is no stronger than its weakest component.

Inquiry

Our inquiry topics this term are:

*Caring For Animals

*Structures – Playgrounds

*Music – Playing, reading and creating music

*Christmas Around the World

PMP

PMP will continue to take place on a Monday and Wednesday morning at 9.05 – 9.40am. This term it runs from week 1, through until week 4, inclusive. If you are able to come along to support this programme, please simply turn up on the day. I encourage all children to wear suitable clothing on PMP days for easy movement.

Library

Our library time will continue to be Friday at 9.00am. Your child will need to have their library books returned to the library container in the classroom, by Friday morning.

Swimming

Junior syndicate swimming will take place this term in weeks 5 and 6, for 8 days. Again, it will be at DNI (Dunedin North Intermediate) and we will bus there daily. Each session in the pool lasts for 25 minutes. More information about swimming will be sent out this coming week. I encourage all swim-bags, togs, towels, swim-caps and goggles to be clearly named for easy recognition.

Homework

Congratulations to those children who have consistently read their reading book each night (Monday to Thursday) and filled out the reading log in the front of their poem book. Some children have now completed many reading logs and should be very proud of their efforts. As an incentive, each child receives 3 stickers for their individual sticker chart on completion of a reading log.

Also, congratulations to those children who achieved 100% in all Friday spelling tests for Term 3. Over half the class achieved this wonderful result.

Communication and Parent/Teacher Partnership

Do feel free to come into the classroom before or after school, on any day, to look at your child’s work around the classroom. I am also available to meet with you to discuss any concerns any day before school, or after school Wednesday through to Friday.

Alternatively you can e-mail me at:

Thank you for your ongoing support and I look forward to catching up with you all in the coming week.
